That's because the tax-base is so limited they try to frick the only people left. That's why whitey left Orleans Parish years ago, same concept.

right, a quick Zillow search just now revealed to me that you can't buy a 2br/2ba condo for much under $300k in uptown, garden dist, l garden dist, warehouse dist, irish channel, etc.

Hardly anyone pays property taxes because the yearly tax bill is typically higher than they could sell the house for.

Yeah, and that's too bad.
I read a few years ago artists and others were doing just that and buying these old, large houses and tearing out all the walls so it's one big room for a studio, then living next door.

At least whitey is coming back strong in Nola.

Detroit is the blueprint of how to destroy a world city in less than 50 years.

NOLA is so black that the city has a white mayor, white district attorney, white city council, etc.

The hipsters that are flocking back are bottom-dwellers. Totally different group but I get your point.

Yes there are a ton of new hipster transplants from the north. I agree. But there are also a lot of young professionals moving into the warehouse district and lakeview that weren't moving here before.

Detroit is a lot like a large Baton Rouge if only Baton Rouge was once an amazing and prosperous city.

I just looked on google maps for the areas listed. You go a block away to say,

8228-8236 Elgin St, Detroit, MI 48234, you can see one house. If you look at the map, it's truly in the middle of the city.

Looked at the assessor's website and it looks like you can only look up properties in person, not online. This neighborhood is also right next to the airport, so no thanks.

Good to hear about warehouse dist. Lakeview/Lake Terrace areas never really experienced the exodus so its kind of same its always been.
