In a brief English-language article, KCNA gave the American's name as Jeffrey Edward Fowle, saying he arrived as a tourist on April 29. It didn't give any other details.

Citing unidentified diplomatic sources, the Japanese news agency Kyodo reported that Fowle was part of a tour group and that he was detained in mid-May after allegedly leaving a Bible in a hotel where he had been staying.

I really don't feel bad for these people who knowingly go into that shithole and then get in trouble.

Oh, I'd love to visit. I'd love to visit lots of places but I DON'T for the very reason mentioned in OP.

Adventure. We are all going to die someday. People have too much angst over what might kill them. And I agree we really shouldn't provide such a safety net for people that go on these adventures.

Hell, there's a lifetime of places here in North America I'd rather visit than NK.

But, if you want to bask in the glorious result of central planning and total government control without the evils of capitalism, then NK is the place to be.

Sounds like a missionary. If so, good for him.

That said, you're not a missionary of the US, so you can't expect the country to move mountains to bring you back.

And you know the risks going in. If that's how you want to live your life then go for it. However, don't expect the United States to bail you out if you get caught.

I agree. I mean I will support State Dept. working on your behalf like we do anyone who gets themselves into a mess, but there definitely shouldn't be an expectation we're going to risk a major international conflict over you.
