Ok, I think there is equal blame to be shared here, but for fricks sake.... You know you are under a microscope with the amount of bad press for the VA, yet you don't step up measures to ensure that you are portrayed in the best light and don't drop the ball?

You would think the directors of these hospitals would have employees assholes so tight, they wouldn't be able to move.

HOUSTON -- The family of an 80-year-old Navy veteran believes Houston’s VA hospital put their loved one’s life in serious danger.
Shedrick Morris was transported to the Michael E. Debakey VA Medical Center on Wednesday night.

Morris was taken there from his home by ambulance after he began experiencing chest pain.

According to relatives, Morris was discharged by the hospital only hours later between 2-3 a.m.

They claim they were not contacted by the hospital even though they say the facility has their contact information.

“I think that’s ridiculous. Who releases an 80-year-old man with memory loss, and he came by ambulance,” said daughter Ellen Pree. “He had no phone, no wallet, no information at all.”

A VA spokesperson told KHOU that Morris was in the waiting room before leaving on his own. The hospital thought that Morris had been picked up for a ride.

“I don’t think anybody should be discharged at that time in the morning, not even a baby. Buses aren’t even running at that time,” said son Tommy Morris.

Tommy Morris said he only found out his father had been discharged after calling the hospital to ask about his dad.
His father, who suffers from short term memory loss, doesn’t recall where he went or where he was picked up by a police officer.
Houston Police haven’t said where Morris was found, but his family says an officer spotted him wandering off of hospital property.

FIL's friend started having heart attacks in November. He lives in Baton Rouge and a veteran. I think it was 90% blockage and couldn't get heart surgery. There were no openings in Houston and the VA wouldn't pay for the surgery in Baton Rouge or New Orleans. He had multiple heart attacks and finally in MARCH his doctor was able to convince them to do surgery because he was getting ready to die...

This thread isn't even about how shitty they have been... Its the fact that nobody has the foresight to tighten the ship post-scandal. You know everything you do is going to be looked at under a microscope, yet you let this happen?

"so what" is the attitude of every govt agency. They are like a 5 year old that has never been punished. They know they can get away with anything.

We can all piss and moan all we want. But I fear in the end nothing will happen. I truly believe the only thing that will stop our corrupt govt is a collapse and I'm not looking forward to that.

I don't think it's unreasonable to be discharged from the ED when your condition is worked up and it is deemed you don't need to be admitted to the hospital. Most people don't want to stay in the ED any longer than they have to. However, the hospital should have notified the family of this elderly man so arrangements for his transportation could be made.
