How do you know when an eggplant is ready to pulled? TIA.

Supposed to be when your thumbnail can make an indention in the skin and it stays indented, but its hard to be spot on. Some will be more or less ripe than others.

I sort of "feel" on them...lift it gently, see if it feels heavy for its size. I tend to pick on the small size, as I'd rather not have a seedy interior.
