Sorry if this has been discussed in another thread, but I couldn't find it with a quick search.

I am looking at going to an HD antenna, Apple TV, and tivo setup for my home. I would like to stop paying the $150+ I spend on uverse in favor of using streaming apps, hulu/netflix and an antenna.

I am a football fan and am concerned that I will miss out on some games. I can do watch ESPN app through apple tv, but it requires my ATT password. If I completely axe my Uverse connection, can I still use the watch ESPN app with an ATT internet or cable internet password? I also have a 3 and 4 year old, and am assuming most of the shows/movies they watch can be found on Hulu/netflix.

It seems ridiculous that I pay so much for Uverse and the internet ($200+/month) on top of home phone ($40) and my family's cell service (~$150). My ATT payments are approaching $400/month and that's if I don't order any entertainment (movies/events).

I would appreciate any and all advice on how to make the switch, if the switch is recommended, pros and cons and anything I may be missing in my journey to get good, cheap TV entertainment.

TIA

Cut the cord 4 months ago.. Was way easier than I thought it would be.. I use roku, appletv, computer tower hooked straight up to my TV, and a chromecast... Honestly could get by with only the computer.. Wireless keyboard mouse combo and all is well

I cut the cord two years ago. If you cut all cable service and just have internet, you can only do watchespn with things that stream only, nothing that plays on any channel like espn, espn2, etc. You will adjust. I will try to update tomorrow. There is no such thing as a HD antenna provided your TV is fairly new (last 10 years) and has a digital tuner built in. I'm working on making a thread to sticky about cutting the cord.

Thanks... looking forward to the thread.

About the antenna, I am confused. I see HD antennas in BB that can pick up signal from 65+ miles away for free 1080i HD channels that are broadcast in your area. Is this not true?

Watch ESPN app only included if you subscribe to tv.

You will still be able to use ESPN3 though

How much stuff do you have with Uverse that cost $150?

I pay $75 for U300 w/HD with two boxes and I order/cancel HBO with the 3 month free promotions that come and go.

As a friend, I'm going to leave you with these parting words:

Newsgroups, Netflix, Plex, First Row Sports, Sickbeard, NZB Club.

You'll need a Samsung smart TV, or a Chromecast + smart phone/tablet, plus an HD antenna. And you'll have everything you want to watch from a $150/month + $60/month internet plan for $60+$25 per month. Technically, you wouldn't even need Netflix, but you could use it for channel flipping.
