Business Formation / Trademark Attorney

I'm starting a business and have some concerns regarding the proposed names for the business, as well as existing trademarks within similar markets. It seems like the logical thing for me to do is consult with a trademark attorney before company formation and business operations.
Has anyone here been in this position before? Can anyone offer any insight/advice regarding trademark issues and trademark attorneys?
