Spoke with a college buddy that works the Beltway as a lobbyist (I know)...word is that the WH eventual strategy will be to throw its weight behind a court martial and seek the death penalty against BB.

I suppose the underlying message will be that if you betray your country, we will get you, give you due process and execute you.

Sounds pretty weak to me, but that is apparently a containment strategy being discussed right now.

Thought I'd pass it along FWIW (probably not much)

It's worth absolutely zero, actually.

I'm sure people will be thrilled that we released 5 supposedly high risk targets so we could kill an American soldier ourselves.

Aren't liberals against the death penalty? Can't imagine Obama pushing for it. Next thing you know he'll be droning American citizens.

LOL

So this WH drones and kills its own citizens who are near suspected terrorists, but they decide to release 5 high levels so they can actually have a trial against this guy?

I think you are likely spot on...that said, if even remotely true, then it gives a glimpse of the desperation right now on Pennsylvania Avenue.

On top of that, WE KNEW WHERE HE WAS!

We could have sent a fricking drone to that house and said "Uh oh, we didn't know he was there!" when the remains turned up if they'd wanted to.

So they refer to Bergdahl as a "hero". Then they send Susan Rice on the talk circuit insisting that Bergdahl served with “honor and distinction.”

But their strategy is to execute him?

That is interesting indeed.

I'm just going to copy and paste my previous answer.

quote:

and I believe that so many people are focused on Bergdaul being a traitor and demanding life in prison or death, they will completely forget about the legal piece of this when they get one of those 2 (death or in prison).

If I were Bergdaul, I'd start cleaning up my affairs because his death would be convenient on many levels.

I think the word your friend is passing off as inside info is bar talk. It doesn't hold water.

Obama is going to call for the death of a kid whose parents he just hugged? Probably not.

It might be the only way out for him right now. The hug can be explained as just being happy their son is alive and that the kid is innocent until proven guilty.

Obama added that regardless of the circumstances of his capture, “we still get back an American soldier if he’s held in captivity. Period. Full stop.”

So if Obama had said "Period. Full stop." when talking about Obamacare could people keep their doctors?

Completely agree...just passing along info from a guy that is normally pretty spot on.

I agree (please note that I am not saying I think this to be true - only passing along what I was told by what has been a decent source of info).
