It does matter. I agree with what you're saying, and wish it was the case, but it's an extremely idealistic way of looking at it. LSU Sports are a business.

Show me where playing 2 neutral site games = more revenue for LSU vs playing 1 home game at Tiger Stadium. The neutral site game you're just getting paid by ESPN who is paying TV dollars for that matchup. We received $3.5 million to play against Oregon in 2011. I have to think we would make at least twice that on a home game.

It absolutely is more revenue. Let me see if I dig up some figures.

3 million for TCU

LINK

3.5 for Oregon

We also get 0% of ticket sales or concessions so that is what we get total.

You didn't show me that 1 home game brings twice as much revenue as a neutral-site game.

Side note/question: Getting marquee opponents to agree to come to BR is not an easy sell. Not to mention, we have to pay them to travel and have to return the favor with an away game that we don't get any substantial revenue from. Why would we and others continue to go for these neutral site games in lieu of home games if there was no financial incentive?

Ticket sales alone for 99,000 seats in tiger stadium. Do the math. (that doesn't include concessions, parking, local revenue, etc. Use your brain.

Your second link basically says the cowboy classic sets it's prices at the level necessary to replace a home game for the invite teams.

So 2 neutral site games is more money by far than one TS game if that's accurate.

It's very hard to compute how much LSU makes on a single home game (assuming a full attendance) from the numbers available publicly.

But 100k x $50 = 5 million and the average ticket price is probably way more than that if you include donations and clubs/suites. Also add on parking (which is pure profit), concessions and merchandise. Minus expenses like security, ticket and stadium workers, etc. I would love to know what that came out to on a per game basis, but it's just impossible to figure with the limited numbers.

We got 3.5 million for playing Oregon. In that game we did not have to pay security for the stadium and surround campus(You know those BR PD and LSP don't work for free), Pay for concessions, Light Bill, post game clean up, LSU Facilities crews, people to work Tiger Gift Shops and so on. There are many other expenses it takes to run a home game you don't even think about. What hapens if it rains bad in a home game and only 40,000 fans show up? All the expenses are there but some of the revenuse stream is not. In a neutral site game that is 100% guaranteed. 3.5 million without many of the other expenses.

That's what it said Michigan and Alabama demanded. We got almost 40% less for our games. There's no way we make 40% less on a game than those two schools.

Well put.

I too selfishly want more marquee home OOC games, but I understand that there are numerous positives in neutral site games from a scheduling, recruiting and business standpoint, and that we and other major programs will continue to schedule them.

Until this upcoming season we have had significantly lower seating capacity, cheaper tickets, and fewer premium seating and suite options.

It's not out of the realm of possibility. Also 34%=/=almost 40 to me.

LINK

LSU makes about $4 Million in revenue for the Athletic Department per home game.

We get around $3-$4 Million from Neutral games.

Over a two year example:
2 Neutral games = $6-$8 Million
Home/Away = $4 Million

I have a good grasp of their expenses. Thanks.

So you're okay with taking the guaranteed 3 million and taking money out of the local and state economies in the process?

Another indication of how the SEC and ACC will hook up in football for OOC games. Smart move on both sides, IMO. Beats multiple games vs. divisional schools.

re: Report: Miami in discussions to play against Alabama or LSU

As bad as this might sound, the "Allure" of Tiger Stadium is not what it once was in the eyes of everyone without P&G glasses on. Recruits these days on the whole are not going to come to LSU because of the myth of Tiger Stadium and the "wild atmosphere" and game day experience. Sure there are still some kids that have been LSU fans all their lives and want to realize a dream and play for the Tigers but these are becoming few and far between. Most every player of any extreme talent wants to go to a school that can get them ready for the NFL and put them on that stage to shine. Playing a game on national TV in a stadium like Jerry World or Georgia dome is big for players. Gives them a taste of the national spotlight and chance to really shine. These games also open recruits eyes to team maybe they might not have considered otherwise.

I firmly believe that the Athletic Department is squarely focused on the money when it comes to football.

So why would the Athletic Department schedule neutral site games if they COULD schedule home and home games and make more money?

Keep in mind that some of the revenue is fixed regardless of the number of home games.
