Should we be reading anything into recent European elections?

Economist article this morning got me thinking. Lots of recent European elections are seeing victory for anti-EU parties and candidates seeking more autonomy and control of their own countries and weakening the establlishment in Brussels. Especially when it comes to economic issues like labor laws.
Does this apply at all to our states and the federal government here at home? Should we be taking note of this, or is the EU and our government organized too differently to make any valid comparisons?

Especially lately, we seem to be following European trends such as health care, statism, liberalism, etc. Now that more conservatives are being elected over there perhaps we will shift more in that direction as well if the people of this country figure things out. But, after the first four years of Obama that didn't happen. So who knows....

If our states were still considered sovereign and had representation in Washington, possibly, but Lincoln made sure no state could ever leave the union, and the 17th amendment took away the states' representation in DC. And our children have been taught that such thoughts are un-American, so I'd say this is highly doubtful. But hopefully the EU situation will prompt more people to revisit the idea of states' rights without being considered "wacko birds."
