Or is this a genre in itself?

All of Tyler Perry's movies are like shitty soul food sequels with a lame arse madea character to make a mockery of things.

I'm not an expert on these types of movies so I may be way off base here. Are there a lot of movies like this or did Tyler perry just exploit this one?

I enjoyed soul food fwiw.

There's a market that has an audience that craves utter shite like this movie.

He sees this and proceeds to make utter shite movies to cater to this market's audience and gets insanely rich in the process.

He made a smart business decision and he's living the American dream because of a great decision he made. It's hard to be mad at him for that. However, it's easy to be mad at this audience that wants utter shite movies.

Someone made a good point a few days ago.

Tyler Perry is to black people what Adam Sandler is to white people.

How do you not? Take out madea and you've got essentially the same type of movies.

Hell, madea is the anti-big mama but there for a similar purpose.

Big mama is the wise, all-knowing gma who is the glue of the family that helps people throughout their controversies.

Madea is the wise, know it all gma who keeps the family together and helps keep people in check throughout their controvercies...

It's even shot the same, bro.

All of my black friend says he hates madea. I've seen more affliction/Hurley white people who eat that shite up.

My black friend's right arm hates Madea, but the rest of him is indifferent.

It was a play on "all of my black friends" and "I have a black friend".

Madea is the star of Madea movies. The grandma in Soul Food is in a coma most of the movie then she's dead.

There's plenty of movies about a family led by a strong matriarch, you're just coupling these two because they both have black people.

Pretty big coma... And if you've seen Tyler perry movies, madea isn't the main focus in a lot of them.

I think that's just how you want to portray my opinion. That's cool, that's your opinion.

They have the same situations. Maybe TP just covered all scenarios to where it happened to have covered everything in soul food. But all of the family drama that went on in soul food, went on in Tyler perry movies. They just had a madea twist.

So every movie with family drama is like Soul Food and Madea?

In Soul Food the family leader takes ill later dies and the family falls apart. That kinda what happened in the Godfather. Is Soul Food a copy of the Gordfather?

That's a pretty big difference in the two movies.

You're being silly now. Of course one similarity doesn't make a movie like another. The fact that all the drama that went on in soul food, Tyler perry did. Not a single theme, scene or situation.

But if you can't see that, by all means keep using hyperboles to try to do, uh, whatever it is you're wanting to do here. The movies are very similar and the difference you mentioned are minor. Much more minor than the similarities that you are trying to downplay.

Wise cracking matriarch vs. Coma-ridden then dead matriarch.

So your defense is one died at the end of one movie and the other was milked into multiple movies....

The whole theme around was family and dealing with issues. Big mama and madea were different people yet played the same role in keeping the family straight. Even in death big mama continued to do this.

She died at the end but is in a coma for like 70% of the movie as opposed to Madea who is wisecracking all the way.

That's a common theme in movies.
