Why Are the Netflix Movies Generally Not That Great?

I know that it is all about licensing, and I love the access to the TV shows, but I rarely scroll through the Netflix movies and see movies that I really want to watch.

I was looking for some good old war movies for Memorial Day and there were few.

Do they rotate movies, or is it just a matter of licensing? Is there some kind of rhyme/reason to the movies that they make available?

One example: The Watchmen is not on Netflix instant. Epic fail.

There is a website called instantwatcher (I think) and that is a much better way to see what is offered by Netflix.

Are you using just the American version?

I've started to notice that if I see a movie that I wanted to see but forgot about on FX then if I go on Netflix I can watch it commercial free.

Was Netflix better when it had Starz? I would imagine so, but I didn't get it until after that.

I've never had trouble finding movies I want to see on there.

Had a little bit better selection of movies and I caught the first season of Spartacus on there, but none of the Starz catalog was in HD.

This is exactly why you don't have better movie selection. A few years ago they shifted priority (and funding) to TV shows because what most people were using NetFlix for was to watch TV shows. Now honestly part of that was because even back then their selection of movies was mediocre, but it is obviously easier/more cost effective to get rights to good TV shows than good movies.

It's not like anyone else has access to good movies that you don't have to pay at least $4 to rent a non HD version. Does HBOGO give you access to the movies currently playing on HBO? Or is it just their original programming?

Yeah but we've been programmed for decades that New Releases! of movies that have been heavily marketed within the past year are the movies we want to see. One of NetFlix's biggest flaws is not having trailers. That would make it much easier to try something different.

This may be a little off topic, but I've been trying to find one of the streaming providers that have Willow for instant streaming. Do any of them have it? I've had a craving to watch that movie for over a month now, but can't find it.

It usually means you have to expand your taste in movies.

I know I have about 30 or so on my watch list currently. No complaints.

It's not really Netflix fault.. the companies back out all the time..

There are good movies though, just need to know what they are or how to find them.. Netflix is good for foreign movies, because they do not care.
