Watching The World Wars last night got me wondering. Why didn't Hitler ever invade Switzerland? Did he refer to the Swiss as "a pimple on the face of Europe", or something like that?

Every inch of Switzerland is defended by every living person. Not worth it.

if his other campaigns would have been successful he eventually would have attacked them but Switzerland is a vary hard country to take and so he was not anxious to go in.

Russia could offer far more than Switzerland could.

Because every politician in the history of the universe agrees that money is the most important thing that exists, no matter how much they're willing to make other people fight for other things.

They had the terrain and were decently defended.

They also offered very little benefit of being conquered, they were already surrounded so Germany controlled their trade.

Also, since they were indepedent, Germany was able to use them as a 3rd party for trade to some extent as well as diplomatic negotitions.

So they were too difficult to defeat and somewhat valuable as well.

The risk was not worth the reward.

I'd say it was due to the terrain more than the people. Germany would've curb-stomped them given favorable conditions. They could've had a fricking RPG in every house, it wouldn't have mattered.

Many members of the Swiss financial establishment had a mutually beneficial relationship with the Nazis.

They were neutral. Nazi's didn't go after Sweden either.

I thought Switzerland laundered a lot of the German war machine money in the 30s. Hitler promised not to invade because of that.

I could be wrong but I honestly thought the Swiss were rather dirty with the money angle going on during the 30s-40s.

I completely forgot that Germany financed Lenin's revolution. Biggest takeaway from the History channel show so far.

From what I've read, the Allies seemed to be skeptical of Switzerland.

It is interesting to read about the Allied bombing missions that mistakenly dropped their bombs on Swiss towns instead of the targets in Germany. Bombing the wrong country had to look pretty bad...

I always heard it was because they defended the shite out of the passes. It would have been very difficult to take.

Would have been super difficult, because while they don't take sides they so defend the shite out of themselves. Also it's not as strategically important as other areas, and he invaded Russia bc they were fighting him.
I do think if things had gone as he planned eventually he would've either invaded Switzerland or forced them to ally with him
