I can't imagine how that team went on a 10 game losing streak - did they over perform last year?
if you ever have a chance to make it to fenway I would add it to my bucket list.

I would love to see something remotely positive happen to that fan base.

Two wins over the Braves... nothing to write home about.

They did over perform a bit last year. I know a lot of Sox Fans don't agree with me, but last year was pretty much a miracle. Nava, Gomes, Salty, and Napoli pretty much had career years. Buchholz was amazing, and what he did in the playoffs has apparently messed him up this year. Xander came in and was straight money in the postseason.

WMB not coming around has very much effected this team, and combine that with JBJ not really hitting and the rotation being a mess, not to mention the failure of the Sizemore experiment, and you have this season.

The last two years have been glorified bridge years, notice they aren't exactly picking up long term contracts. There is a ton of young talent in that farm system. Ceccini looks like the second coming of Wade Boggs and a young Youk, Mookie has been tearing the cover off the ball, we have two extremely talented catcher prospects, among a very strong core of pitchers (albeit no true #1 rotation arms).

I used to live up in NH and we'd regularly go to Fenway. I loved it.

Not that he was worth the $, but losing a healthy Ellsbury was huge. He ignited a lot of offense from the leadoff spot.

My son is in school in Vermont and we've been to a few red sox games and a few orioles games as well. I pull for the red sox just because that fan base had suffered for so long and a few heart breaking losses to the reds and the mets (ws) to name a few. Now if only the Indians or even the Cubs can win one for that hurting fan base.

Thoughts on the Drew signing?

I'm very conflicted. I'm 25, and I was just too young to really understand the early careers of most of the home grown Red Sox talent. Xander was the first one I really followed, understand he was going to be fantastic. The idea that Xander is the next Tulowitzki is burned into my brain. That being said, Xander is insanely young, and will be getting bigger so maybe third base is the place for him to go. It's just tough to see what Xander is going to bring to the table from a usually offensively challenged position, allowing the Red Sox to put someone like Ceccini on first.

I like Stephen Drew, but this signing is mostly a referendum on Will Middlebrooks and his failures to develop at the major league level. I know it's stupid, but I wanted Drew to start at third so Xander could keep getting reps at short. It's worse for the team, and probably not even Xander's future position.

A typical argument of the MSB proletariat.

In response, I present this gif that made me chuckle.
