@RyanRosenblatt (from Stars and Stripes)
I love DaMarcus, but he will be dominated by the offensive talent in our group.

Based on training, starting XI looks like: Howard; Johnson, Cameron, Besler, Beasley; Zusi, Bradley, Jones, Bedoya; Dempsey; Altidore.

Copying and pasting from Azerbaijan game thread:
Why bring in Timmy Chandler if you aren't seriously entertaining the idea of putting him at RB?
Isn't the whole point of starting Johnson on the back line is to get Beasley out of the LB?

Exactly. I just don't get it. This is frustrating.

Keep your skirts on, Susans.
We're what - 18 days and three (four) games away from the opener.

So do we hope that Beasley gets embarrassed in these next few games? Although, it won't be tomorrow. That attack is a joke.

I think Klinsmann realizes we don't have a solid enough backline to play Ghana and Portugal straight. I guess he figures he puts enough pace on the backline with Beasley and Fabian he can keep up with those team's wingers, and then just man mark Ronaldo and Gyan or Kevin Prince-Boateng with Jones.
Although, I can't imagine Beasley being that much faster than Chandler at this point. Hell, I think the fastest player in our squad is probably DeAndre Yedlin and he can play left or rightback.
My perspective from the game thread.
This moment from last summer soured me forever on DMB at leftback
He doesn't need to block off Zelaya. He clearly doesn't know where he is in the box, and he isn't in communication with his goalkeepr Rimando.

In the wake of the landygate scandal (yes it's a scandal) we have earned the right to freak out about every little decision we may not like.
Also, I think it's safe to say klinsmann will be very much under the microscope from now until the World Cup is over.

You're really spotting out Beasley out of that whole defensive sequence?

RIP in peace our World Cup

Rest in peace in peace.

I hoping that Jurgen is just trying out back lines. I would expect that the first three games we should rotate the different options, and the last game the starters will start.

He concedes a needless penalty with the ball going away from goal. The clearances were shitty but all Beasley has to do is clear the ball to the sidelines, and he already had position on Zelaya. The contact was unnecessary and sloppy.

All of this.

That highlight video is awesome in so many ways.
For one, Brek was in beast mode.

I would think we might go with Beasley's speed vs. Ghana in the heat ( D.B. plays in Mexico ) then change over to Johnson and Chandler vs. the more technically built and physical Portugal and German sides.
Chandler playing in Germany might give him a better insight as to the way they attack.
Besides, I don't think we will want to send a defender forward as much vs. those later 2 teams.
T.C. will be fresher also, in that heat that might be an advantage.
I think this team is going to play well and go through.

Jurgy starting the Beas over Chandler would make less sense than dumping LD.
On a related note, I'm already nervous about the first 15 minutes against Ghana. Things could get upside down quickly.

We played then even in 2006 and they got a bogus penalty and we out played them in 2010 in almost every stat.
If Timmy doesn't give up a near post goal we win in regulation.
I rewatched the game recently and we had many many great chances that we blew. They are good, but I think we are better.
As for Beas starting vs Ghana I am ok with that, but I don't think he starts vs the other 2 teams.
Portugal tied twice with Israel and was beaten by Norther Ireland or some lesser team, I forget exactly, but it was a stunner.
I think our team is young fresh and hungry
We will perform well. We might not go through, but J K will have them ready to play. And he will have the propper plan for each team.
GO USA

sue me but that line up is pretty solid. especially pre friendly. 10/11 players are my ideal starters with this 23. and the 11th (bradley vs. chandler vs. johnson including positioning) is one im not too upset about because i love DMB
