So, I am barrowing my grandparents 5th wheel while I work out of town. My grandpa was nice enough to tow it out here for me but I don't want to make him tow it to another job. My questions are can my truck pull it and how much to install a hitch in my truck.

Truck: A lifted Nissan Titan, the hitch itself is only about 4 inches higher the bed. Truck has a tow package but no trailer brake.

Trailer: 25ft Springdale idk the model or the actual weight.

Anything helps, I have been working 7-12s, so haven't had a day to figure it out. TIA

You need to check what your truck is rated to tow and how much the trailer weighs.

Probably looking at around $250, maybe less, for the hitch install.

Definitely get a brake controller.

How far are you looking to pull it? From where to where?

you are not going to install a 5th wheel hitch for 250 heck its hard to get a ball hitch for that.

5th wheel needs to tow level If your truck is too high it will be a problem

Why not just trade trucks with gramps for a while?

Idk how far yet. To my next job not far maybe 30-40 miles but to bring back home almost 200 miles. I always heard that the hitches were like over 1k.

It would be a good while. I'm working out here until the end of the year.

Best idea if you're short on time.

Hire a Hot Shot to tow it if you're only moving it every few weeks or so.

Have you made friends at the job you are currently working that also has a trailer maybe see if someone you work with could help you out. Pay them mileage.

And pin weight is the crucial part of towing a 5th wheel. Also you need a brake controller if you try and do it with your truck

this is what I would do as well...cheaper than having someone round trip 200 miles each move...

I would like to tow it myself so I can take it where I want when I want. And I think weight wise I can pull it, it will be a matter of my truck being to tall.

You can pull it no problem. I have a buddy with a 28' Mobile Scout 5th wheel and he pulls it with a Titan. As mentioned your main issue will be the height of your truck.

It's not really a matter if if your truck can pull it or not. It's a matter of can your truck pull it safely down the road and be able to stop in a reasonable distance or a very short distance if the opportunity arises. Also 5th wheels usually have a different plug for brake lights than most half ton trucks are equipped with. Trailer brakes is a MUST. No matter how far you're going.

Hitch installed with plug gonna run you around 1400. If you have the hitch you'll have to buy rails and get it installed. Still gonna run you 500 bucks or more. It's doable with your truck, but you really need brakes.

My Chevy 1/2 ton has the proper plug, but the placement sucks, so I use an extension. Works great. And yes, with the right brake settings, the trailer stops itself, and helps the truck a tremendous deal. Hell, I may stop better with it on there than without.

If the trailer hookup only clears your truck bed by 4 inches, I highly doubt you will be able to pull it. At that height you would barely clear a gooseneck hitch.
