My friend caught it and let it go. I have no idea what it is though. I would've set the woods ablaze.

Maybe a corn snake.

If it bit the OP numerous times, then it is a baby water snake. Plus the smell.

Does not have the markings of a moccasin, rattler, nor copperhead, should be a great pet.....

Next time you see a spotted Kingsnake about 2 feet or longer, just pick him up. They don't bite once they get about 2 feet.

If a person can't properly identify snakes, then it's wise to consider all of them deadly. I know I'm telling my age here, but just like Willie Mays said in his PSA Message many years ago about blasting caps, DON'T TOUECH THEM!

The majority of people who get snake bit, are bitten by a snake they didn't see.
