Uncle passed back in April. He always took me hunting while I was growing up, asked my aunt if I could buy his guns from her rather than going to auction.

She told me I could have whichever ones I want, but instead told her I'd just like to buy them all as it'd start my collection for me and my son and have memories hunting with him using almost all of them.

I don't even know what all he had, but there are 7 apparently. I am sure of at least a deer rifle, 2 shotguns, a revolver and no idea of the rest. Don't remember makes or models and I am in Hawaii with them in Missouri so don't have that information available.

With that being as vague as possible how much should I give her for them? 1500? 2000? What would be a good generic price?

Too broad.

Ask her what she wants for them.

If she wants their value, then you need them appraised - or atleast guesstimated by a local gunsmith. If she has no attachment to them and just wants a family member to have them - then give her some $ and do something really nice for her.

Buy a Gun Digest and see what they are worth.

well....if she told you that you can HAVE them and now you want to BUY them, i'd just offer 1000.00.

She said I could have whichever ones I wanted and she was going to sell the rest.

If she had plans on selling any of them don't want her to be out any planned money on it.

As for taking them to a gun smith or a digest and researching them. I will not have seen these guns or been around them until my mom drives them out to me in Virginia. We are in the military and PCSing there from Hawaii in July. We got to go back for the funeral, but won't be back in Missouri anytime soon.

Guns are too variable in price for even an educated guess. Shotgun may be a Benelli or a cheap one, and all the others the same. I have guns and if you randomnly pick 7 of them you may end up with 700 dollars worth of guns or much much higher. Buy the before mentioned book, find the value, and pay whatever percentage you feel is fair with one free. I'd go with probably about half.

Those guns could be worth $300, or $30,000. We have no idea unless you tell us the brand and model

Don't be a smartass. You asked us the vaguest question possible and want some sort of realistic answer.

Exactly, if you were in the situation what would you give for them? I caveated several times that I know there's no way to put an actual price on something so vague, but please post just that some more.

I am not going to ask my grieving aunt who is broken up over it to go look up the serial numbers on some guns so we can be sure of an appropriate price for this shite.

Appropriate answer to an extremely vague question.

What kind of advice were you looking for? We don't know you. We don't know your aunt. We don't know your family. Offer what you think is fair.

A similar question would be, "My uncle died leaving an old car behind. How much should I offer?"

ETA: I knew this would end up with Mizzou being a prick. It always does.

So how do you expect us to?

Let me simplify this for you. Pick two and let her sell the rest.
