Chicago hotel advice needed

Buddy and I are going to Chicago for a few days in July. I have been to Chicago several times, But never been responsible for booking hotel rooms.
Can anyone suggest a neighborhood/area/street that I should start my search?
Main things we are looking for:
Close access to L. We will not have a car
Walking distance to bars/restaurants.
2 single guys looking for an area with good nightlife. Cubs aren't in town so staying near Wrigley is pointless.

Went for the first time a couple months ago. Check out theWit. We had a junior suite on one of the upper floors. It was incredible - my favorite hotel experience so far, and I do a lot of traveling. It was in the downtown theatre district, which was an awesome location in the heart of the Loop. Can't wait for a reason to go back. It's a pretty new hotel, one of those trendy types with cool architecture. In walking distance of Giordano's Pizza, Catch Thirty Five (awesome restaurant), and everything downtown is just a few bucks/few minutes by cab. The L passes right by it - walk right out the door and right into subway stations.

Just flew in from Chicago 30 minutes ago. Young guy here. Say in wriggly ville plenty of chill and sports bars and food options in walking distance. Train runs right by the stadium. You can study near Addison or southport train station and get anywhere in the city from there. We got the 7 day train pass only 33 bucks and well worth it.

I will be staying at a Marriott chain bc of my loyalty program. So I dont necessarily need hotels themselves. But more towards areas of town. Should I just stay as close as I can to downtown?

I was just there this week on business and have booked things in the past through priceline and hotwire. I would start with North Michigan Avenue or Millennium Park. You should be able to get a 4 or 3.5 star for less than $200/night

There's a Marriott by Midway which is probably cheaper than downtown and you can take the orange rail straight into the city.

I'd stay downtown in the Loop for sure. Even though you can stay outside and quickly take the train or a cab into the city, there is so much within walking distance if you stay in the Loop.

yea you should be good. There are stations southwest (Kinzie) and northeast (Grand) of that intersection.

Renaissance Chicago Downtown, a Marriott property on W. Upper Wacker, was right across the street from theWit where I stayed.

The Conrad on Rush street. Pricey but...if you are going, go big. Convenient to everything.

I se in the Wit...rated 3rd best rooftop bar in the world...great location...clean...quirky...great location.
