A Texas teenager accused of making and selling brownies laced with marijuana and hash oil is facing a punishment that could include anywhere from five years to life in prison.

Seems a little harsh

I don't give a frick about this kid.

There should be harsh penalties. Make it so that people don't want to break the law for fear of the consequences.

Not all penalties should be harsh.

Some crimes have no victims.

Oh shite Williamson county.
Prayers sent to the kid, he's F'd. Man Round Rock, Georgetown and Hutto are tough on pot.
Always have been.

also 1.5 pounds of brownies isn't 1.5 pounds of pot.

Authorities say hash oil is a controlled substance with much harsher state penalties than marijuana. The oil has higher concentrations of the psychoactive component of marijuana. It's in a penalty group with amphetamines and ecstasy.

Good to know

I heard that under the law, the entire weight of the brownie can be considered an illegal drug. So, while there may not have been much oil in there (may even have been misdemeanor levels, dunno), all the other ingredients are factored in. So, the sugar, flour, coco, etc. are all considered illegal drugs.

Seems a bit ridiculous.

Lavoro's lawyer Jack Holmes told KUTV.com that Lavoro's punishment is too harsh and is 'higher than the punishment range for sexual assault or aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. It's kind of crazy.'

have no problem with punishing the kid but the possibility of life is ludicrous.

His life doesn't need to be ruined. Common sense is not being used.

You don't think people should be free to eat or bake whatever plants they want? Do you consider yourself to be a small-government conservative?

Not to be an a-hole but

He broke the law. Harsh or not it's not like he accidentally made these. Don't do drugs. It's quite simple

Give him a fine, community service, maybe a month in jail. He doesn't deserve the possibility of life in prison for this.

You should have a problem punishing the kid at all. The law is barbaric and stupid and has no place in a "free" country.

Life in prison for pot brownies?

That's a different debate. Yes, weed should be regulated like alcohol.

In this kid's case, as someone mentioned above give him a fine and some community service and move on.

Not all laws deserve equal respect.
