Restaurants Suckered In By Chimes East

Hopeful restaurateurs, both experienced and inexperienced, have been blinded by the massive success of Chimes East.
People wanting to open a restaurant drive by Chimes and see that it is packed day in and day out. Since Chimes is so busy, they want some of that action and they think there is room for another restaurant in the area. But what they fail to realize is that the success of Chimes is due to Chimes itself, not so much the location.
Walk Ons was suckered in. (#1 Sports Bar in America failed there)
Bull Chicks was suckered in.
Sushi Village was suckered in.
Portico was suckered in.
I would argue that Taco Boudreaux's was sucked in too, although it's located on Sherwood at I-10.
And it is my understanding that Santa Fe Cattle Co is going to locate where the failed Walk Ons was located. Considered yourself suckered, SFCC.
Not a restaurant, but Quarters was suckered in.
A new Mexican restaurant is opening in Applebees' old failed location. Another sucker.

I wouldn't say bull chicks was suckered in. They probably got that old Arby's for cheap and it is a pretty busy area. Plus isn't bull chicks basically fast food? I agree with all the other places you mentioned. How is the Londoner doing these days?

You realized they shut that location down to focus on the new Town Center location which is printing money as we speak.

Okay, let's get some clarity here.
Chimes has a lot of beers, and is a nostalgic place for People who went to LSU, but food giant it isn't, not even close. If anything, Chimes has yet to get anything resembling competition to date, but I'll be completely honest with you. There could be a place right across the street that made the most amazing sandwiches in the state, and Chimes would still dwarf them because of what the draw really is.

They shut it down because they had very few customers. Successful (profitable) restaurants don't shut down to focus on another location.

And I hope you realize they received this moniker simply because they hosted ESPN for the 2012 national championship

Exactly, they couldn't compete with The Chimes

Yes you are. And it's obvious
ETA: the whole point of this thread went way over your head.

Exhibit A: Walk Ons (The so called #1 Sports Bar in America) That is what people in the restaurant bidness call a direct competitor.

If you amend the passive language in your thread title it would correctly read: "Chimes East suckered in restaurants"
And in that context, how are the Chimes East's owners/staff intentionally deceiving these start-ups? Seems to me as if these businesses failing equals a reflection of either 1) their lack of inherent quality, or 2) a lack of demand for more restaurants/bars in that particular area of town.

My point is there are places in South East Baton Rouge that are and were doing ok before the Chimes. Dont get me wrong I like Chimes and both locations but here is the list that has not suffered with similar characteristics:
Georges
Jones Creak
Capital City Grill
Hawks Nest
Londer
Bayleaf
Portico
Fernando's
Masons
Jasmins
Pocorellos
Dunkin Donuts oh and Dairy Queen
and the Sushi and Asain Resturants on Sherwood seem to be ok

I haven't been since they opened but you do realize that that location in Towne Center has been the graveyard of at least three other restaurants.

I will agree with that, however they actually took over the spot. The tenant(s) had carpet floors, out dated bar, outdated tvs and the place seemed nasty. Go in there now, they ripped out the carpet and updated the TVs and Bar scene. My entire point the the OP is that the Chimes South East BR has not changed the restaurant scene.

These "start-ups" are deceiving themselves.

Or perhaps they're simply taking a calculated risk. But that may not be a hyperbolic enough explanation for you.

In what, burgers and fries? Ones about like the other, and when that's the case, nostalgia, familiarity, branding, etc are what people gravitate to. It's not as if they were bringing something bad arse awesome to the table, so when push comes to shove, Chimes has been around a lot lot longer, and people are very familiar with Chimes, so Chimes wins.
