Where does Erik Spoelstra rank if he wins another ring this year?

Obviously he has many many years ahead of him (he's only 43), but if his career ended in July (with another ring), how high would he rank?

3 rings
Almost a 4th
Another ring as assistant coach w/ Heat in 2006

Top 3, easily.

We're talking all-time, right?

All time?

Top 10 for sure. Riley, Pop, Phil would all be ahead of him off the top of my head.

Currently? He's only behind pop in my book.

I think he is very underrated as a coach, but I also think it is fair to hold off judgement on him until the post-Big 3 era.

No one will give him any credit, because he's been coaching the Big 3 for his success. But I think he's really underrated as a coach. Funny how Phil coaches Jordan& Pippen then Shaq& Kobe to all his titles but can be considered the GOAT by some. A lot has to do with the bad perception of forming a super team like Miami the "unnatural way" I guess? Never really understood the differences between today's Heat and former great teams with multiple stars

Ok, we have jokes I see

Regardless of all the talent he has, dude is winning a ring every other year since he has been HC. Very impressive what he has done.

He'll need to win consistently (not necessarily a title) without the greatest player of this generation to be considered an all time great,

Because all-time greats like Phil had to win with subpar talent.

ETA: with the exception of Shaq, of course.

Too small a sample size IMO. I wanna see what he does after the "Big 3 era" before I rank him.

That said, I used to bash Spoelstra and all that. This has been his best year coaching and hes been great. He has my respect now. Hes a damn good coach.

But, again, I wanna see what he does after this era with LBJ, Wade, and Bosh. I wanna see some longevity.

He's great at managing egos - no different than Phil.

Very underrated Xs and Os coach too.

I think the big 3 Era will definitely be taken into account when looking at Spoelstra's legacy, but I want to see what he can do afterwards as well.

His team was the first to ever have three big time guys come together and agree to be on one team. We will see this pattern repeated time and time again in the NBA with varying degrees of success and we already see other teams like LAC, Brooklyn, Houston trying.

I think these types of teams will cause coaches not to get as much respect as coaches in the past, fairly or unfairly. But I do think he's underrated as a coach and definitely doesn't get the credit he deserves. Still hard to rate him now in the middle of another run but I think if he wins this one, the press will start to make their lists and have him top 10 at least.

The Spurs just posted the league's best record without a single player averaging 30+ minutes, which is a new NBA record.
