A Modest Proposal for horse racing fans and bettors

The Belmont will be run on June 7th, 2014. The whole of the card that day is just jaw dropping with 6!!!! Grade 1 races, 2 grade 2s, 1 grade 3, and another non-graded stakes. In addition a Grade 3 race is going off at Santa Anita-- the Affirmed and a grade 3 -the Mint Julep- going off at Churchill Downs. In all 12 stakes at major tracks, or what I would like to call the makings of a pretty awesome handicapping contest. If anyone else is up for this, I propose these guidelines: Picks have to be in by 11 AM EST the morning of June 7th- that should give time to account for scratches, but the first race at Belmont is going off at 11:35 AM. Since, this will obviously only be for bragging rights on this board, I say keep it simple, and only allow the basic $2 win bet, show bet, and place bet per race for the contest ( only one each). However, these can be any combination of 1-3 horses for the three bets per race, i.e. you can bet 1 horse to WPS or 3 different horses. This will also make it easiest to add up the total payouts at the end of the day. And yes, the winner will be determined by total payout for all 12 races.
I would also ask to only mention your bets for the purposes of this contest on this thread, and try to keep them to one post. There can be a separate thread to discuss the races/Belmont craziness. Personally, after seeing what an incredible card it is in New York, I really, really wish I didn't have to work until early afternoon that day. Otherwise, my butt would be on a plane to New York, and I would be showing up with little advanced warning to crash at my friend's house on Long Island.

I'd be down. A couple of suggestions to make it simple. Outline which races outside of the Belmont Card that you want to include. Too keep it simple for you allow one $2 Win, place or show bet per race. Or at least limit it to one horse for a WPS bet each race. It is just going to be a pain if you have people selecting 3 horses per race. I'll be more than happy to help you add it up if we do it.

I am cool with whatever everyone wants, but I figure it shouldn't be too hard to add up, even with a max of three horses per race since I can just go down the results page at the end of the day to get the WPS payouts.
Races included:
Churchill Downs:
Mint Julep (III)
Santa Anita:
Affirmed (III)
Belmont:
Easy Goer (L)
Jaipur Invitational (III)
Woody Stephens (II)
Brooklyn Invitational (II)
Just A Game (I)
Ogden Phipps (I)
Manhattan (I)
Acorn (I)
Met Mile (I)
Belmont Stakes (I)

I'll be down for whatever. I just think it's crazy to select more than one horse per race. But it really doesn't matter. It's your idea and a good one.

That is a crazy lineup

I gotta say, using the words "A Modest Proposal" might not've been the best idea. I was horrified and clicked this thread thinking it would involve eating horses who lose.

I would suggest sticking with Belmont to limit the need for multiple past performances.
I'll email anyone Brisnet PPs on a PDF whenever they come out - the Thur or Fri. I can save them to my computer so I assume they aren't P/W protected beyond that point.

I am fine with that. I am also fine if people would prefer one horse $2 WPS bet per race. Fell free to express your vote one way or another. I usually just grab a card from DRF whenever I feel the urge to bet, so that is cool, Overbrook, if you can easily email the PPs to those who don't want to buy the card. I did RA for a sticky, but if that doesn't happen, I will try to dredge this thread back up when the entries are posted and will link to them.

I like having multiple races as I am new to this and will find it fun.
I am good with 3 $2 bets per race. One win, one place, and one show.

I'm in as well. I place the bets, you add them up. Sounds fun.

In!
Belmont has done a great job of making that day amazing so they get plenty if interest even when there's no triple crown on the line.

To be clear, I meant sticking with all of the stakes at Belmont Park (not just the Belmont stakes) so that we'd only need 1 set of PPs; rather than use Churchill and SA races, which would require 3 sets of PPs.

i vote for only 1 horse being bet for the wps bet
are we going to put money in this? $5 a person, winner takes all, or a fun bet?

they only show pp's of probables for the other races. so you will have pp's of horses who arent in the race and have no clue as to post positions.
i'll have drf pp's for friday and saturdays belmont day, as soon as they are available. I will email those who email me, like i have the past 2 years.
