Remarkably, Carpenter did survive, despite horrific wounds. Just as remarkable is how he sustained them — by throwing himself on the grenade in an attempt to save his friend and fellow Marine, Lance Cpl. Nick Eufrazio, from harm.

On Monday, the White House announced that it would award Carpenter, 24, with the Medal of Honor for his actions, making him just the second living Marine to receive the nation’s highest award for valor in combat since the Vietnam War. Fourteen other U.S. service members have received the Medal of Honor for actions in Iraq or Afghanistan.

What a fricking badass.... I'd love to be able to say I through my self on a granade to save my buddies.... And I'm not talking about doing a fat chick at The Beach.

If I'm talkkng about it, that means I lived to tell the tale which would be boss.... Give some meaning to my shite existence

There isn't any witnesses... He doesn't remember... They are saying that the marines that found him put it all together that that is what he must have done from the positions..... That's what I get from it anyway.

Give the man the metal either way. Like you said he survived a blast
