Got a $200 Cabelas gift card as a graduation present and I was thinking about picking up a cheap AR-style 22. Anyone have any experience with it? After reading a bunch of reviews, a lot of people complained about the gun jamming, but they all sounded like easy fixes. There's a sale on them right now and I can pick it up for about $200, y'all think it would be worth it?

get a S&W 15-22! Better made firearm IMO. And the 15-22 is for practical purposes a polymer AR. The Mossberg is just an existing rifle that they made to look like an AR.

I have a 15-22 and that thing is my favorite gun that I own

I have one, and it does jam, depending on the ammo. Some cycle better than others.
I was just about to go buy one box of every kind to find out what worked best for my gun, then there was the shortage.

I've got a decent amount of .22 ammo in storage so hopefully mine will work with the gun. What type of ammo worked best for you?

I was thinking about the S&W but the price difference is just way too much, especially for a gun that's mainly just to play around with.

Basically I've got about $200 to spend and I want to get a .22. I figured I'd go with the AR style for the looks, but if there are better options at the price feel free to let me know.

You couldn't sell me one of those for 50 bucks, one of the biggest pieces of shite rifles I've ever handled. If you want an AR style one go with the S&W.

Do not get the Mossberg. Fork out the additional $100-$150 and get the Ruger 10/22 or S&W 15-22

Then I would say get a 10/22 if you don't want to put up the extra $200 for the S&W. What ever you do I would stay away from the Mossberg. I can guarantee that the 10/22 or 15-22 will eat up whatever .22 ammo it is that you have.

This. The 10/22 is pretty much the one that gets grabbed for tree rat killing. I actualy got the .22 in the Colt AR platform and it is the target plinker.

Never considered the ruger. Now that I've looked into it though that may be the best option.

ruger is a fine gun. and if you like the looks of the ar, look into the archangel kit for the ruger. Looks sweet

That's a good looking kit. I'll see if Cabelas has any of it in stock later today.

The 10/22 is what you get when you can't afford the 15-22...

The Mossberg is what you get when you can't afford to pay attention...

Buddy left his Mossberg 715t at my house one time for me to try....I had plastic popping cap pistols as a child that were better made and more sturdy. I'd definitely go with a plain ole 10/22 as opposed to using your $200 for something that has the tactical look, but isn't half the gun the Ruger is.

Terrible for a 22. Basically a plinkster 715 with cheap plastic screwed on top. A royal bitch to clean. Get a 15-22
