I'm going to LSU next semester and I'm looking at a house for rent on Aster St. (past Wyoming) in BR. Is that area safe?

I used to live in WCA right off Aster and used to get texts about robberies there all the time so I'd say no.

Safer since they shut down the projects close by.

If push came to shove I'd live there but it certainly wouldn't be my first choice.
Ive known quite a few people who lived there no problems but something is always happening there

I'd definitely recommend that that you look elsewhere than that street.

My son lived in Kirby this year for his freshman year and he said he hated it and he felt like he was uncomfortbly close to the "ghetto's".

He said that he was a few hundred feet away from the Edward Gay Apts. when that shooting happened and it scared the shite out of him. Never again he said

They call that area "The Bottom" for a reason.

What's your opinion on the right to bear arms?

That neighborhood is improving, but it's still at least 5 years away from being safe. Also, traffic on Aster is backs up much of the day. I would avoid the area. I remember two people being shot in their driveway on that street while having a crawfish boil a couple years ago. People consistently get robbed there.

It's not as bad as some will make it out to be. My last year or two at LSU I rented a little place on Wyoming. It was awesome. Friends would park at my place on gameday and we would just walk to the stadium. Absolutely my favorite place I had during my college years.

I never dealt with any crime or had any other issues. Aster might be different.

This was also 6 years ago though. Things may have changed.

Shut up Noonan. You're gonna get the guy killed.

That was great being able to park there for game days though.

Even better to be able to wake up and walk outside my front door to tailgate.

I guess the best info I can give is that pizza places would not deliver there. So even though I never had trouble, I imagine I may have been lucky.

If you have a dog you'll be fine. It's not great but the real ghetto is across Nicholson.

eta: also you can make up to $300 a home game charging people to park, depending on the size of your front yard.
