Why does this disappear when I click on a thread? If I remember to use the back button, they're still there but I always use the links at the top and bottom to get back to the board. When I do, all the (NEW)'s are gone. Is this a cookie thing? Can this be changed? I'd like for all threads to show (NEW) or "unread" until I've read them. I know other boards that use rebuilt forums have something like this.

Do you read or plan on reading every thread on every board you visit?

There are tons of threads that I have no interest in entering. It would be pretty annoying if the new tag stayed on them forever. If I ignore a thread, it's nice that I can come back to the board later and see the new crop separated from the old.

The system works well as it is.

I'd link to know this as well.

I can hit the back button on my MacBook and iPhone (generally) and NEW still appears. But on iPad, they disappear...leaving me in a very lonely world of confusion.

because you are going back to the page you were on. If you first go to the OT and post on a new thread and then back out, that thread will still say "new" and your post not show up.

know how I know you have a shitty memory?

your proposal would add a lot of clutter to my board viewing experience where I would have to click on threads that I wouldn't have otherwise just to get the "new" icon to go away.

I realize that. That's what I want the iPad to do as well.

Just remember which ones you've been in. Or go to your post history to remind yourself where you've posted.

Why do you have to get them to go away? Just leave it there if you don't want to read it.

My best guess...

Your computer is storing the previous page in its cashe. Therefore when you hit 'back' you aren't technically re-routing to the 'OT-Louge' web address page again. You computer is simply pulling the web page from its short term memory.

This speeds up your browsing. You can change the setting if you prefer not to use cashe for the tigerdroppings.com url.

It depends on if the page reloads or not

if you're worried, just open all new topics that are interesting to you in a separate tab. That's what I usually do and it works great.
