I am so sick of these stories. Pull our troops, nuke the place, and forget about it.

According to an Army Ranger and friend of the fallen, Sgt. Maj. Martin R. Barreras was the leader of the Army Battalion that came to the rescue of Jessica Lynch in Iraq. The heroic efforts of Martin’s battalion led to the first successful rescue operation of an American P.O.W. since World War II.

fricking Command Sgt. Maj., and an awesome one at that. Damn.

We just need to get the frick out. It is hopeless. The region needs to fight it out for themselves. The US and NATO should contain them. But basically frick em'.
Losing countless damn fine individuals over a policy/position that 10 years after it is over we will wonder what the hell we ever went for in the first place.

Barreras was a SGT in 2/75 during the Lynch rescue.. He later went on to be CSM of a BN in 1st Armored Division, where he went down, leading from the front. He was never a BN Commander, and would have been the first to point out the inaccuracy. TBH, achieving the rank of CSM is more impressive in a lot of ways than achieving the rank of LTC.
I know the author of this piece meant well, but now this garbled information will be reposted and repeated all over the internet, obscuring CSM Barreras' actual rank and position.

Yep.
frick Obama and Bush for putting our fellow men and women in a dangerous deathtrap for something that's not there and against a made up enemy that doesn't even have a shot in hell of waging a competitive open engagement against the United States of America.
These sand eating waterhead dipshits are not worth American lives.

This probably deserves its own thread but we need them to keep the economy going. What is scary for young poor people is that in 10-20 years max unemployment is going to be WAY higher due to automation and I could see the people in charge deciding the unemployed young men would be better off fighting in a war overseas than hanging on our streets. I mean, I hate to say it but it is what I would do if I was in charge. Unemployment is ONLY going to go up so its just something for everyone to think about, hopefully a few of you can without bringing partisan BS into it. I have no fricking idea what the answer will be but I do know if the US wants to survive we are gonna have to pay A LOT in welfare and/or wars! With the technological advances we are having that is a fact!

I am just replying to you because you were the last to reply but these wars have never been about "war", they are about keeping the American economy balling! I have mixed feelings because I love my lifestyle but I hate seeing Americans have to die.

Agreed so let's stop voting for neocons then. No offense, but I'm sure most of y'all voted for Romney and McCain and W.

Our infrastructure highways roads powerlines are crumbling it would take 15 years and millions of jobs and billions upon billions of dollars to fix them that should be driving our economy not some bogus war

All of who have been in office too long and have continued this war. What we need is to elect some idealistic leftist who will put a stop to these neocons.
Is that right?

"Rescue" is a very misleading word since the whole Lynch ordeal is one big lie essentially.
The civilian hospital wasn't holding Lynch & actually attempted to deliver her to the nearest U.S. Checkpoint by ambulance the day before the raid only to be shot at by U.S. Marines.
Before they could attempt to turn her over to U.S. Troops again the hospital was raided the very next day. The staff treated her extremely well(considering limited supplies) & even female staff groomed & sang 'lullabies' to the upset Lynch.

We need to get General Dynamics, Raytheon, Rand Corp., Halliburton, and the rest of the defense contractors to shift their expertise to infrastructure while still maintaining an appropriate level of defense expertise. The defense industry is what drives war. Award them infrastructure projects and there will less pressure for war.

"Rescue" is a very misleading word
quote:One big lie "essentially"? How about nonessentially? Any essential truth to the fact she sustained severe injuries under attack? Any essential truth to the fact several of her fellow soldiers died during the attack? Any essential truth to the fact she was captured by Iraqi soldiers? Any essential truth to the fact she was in severe pain and distress during that time? Any essential truth to the fact she was being held at a facility behind enemy lines?
since the whole Lynch ordeal is one big lie essentially.
Essentially? Anything?

Yep, and died doing what he loved doing. With that rank and resume he could have been riding a desk somewhere in the Pentagon.
