Tipping During Travel

Just got back from a business trip, and I was really curious how people handle tipping the bellmen/cabs/etc.
Day starts with taking a parking shuttle to the airport. Tip the gent $1 per bag.
Some people do curb-side check-in, tip the gent $1 per bag.
Get to your destination and tip the taxi driver.
Some people would tip the hotel employee who unloads your bag from the trunk and pulls out the handle.
Tip the bellman $1 per bag to store your bag, and $1 per bag to retrieve your bag.
Assuming we have two bags, that is $2 for shuttle, $2 for curbside checking, $5-8 for taxi tip, $4 for bell services, $1-2 for taxi hailer.
That is roughly $15 spent one way for a handful of people to do jack shite for you. I am not cheap and I pay these, but it makes me scramble for $1s every corner I turn.
Does anyone skip tipping some of these folks, and have you ever felt like shite for doing so?

Why did you skip a line after each sentence?
Posted on 5/15/14 at 4:25 pm to 1MileTiger
I would have only tipped the drivers

My company reimburses me for these...I generally carry my bags and check in for flights inside so $5 to the valet per day us my only tip expense.

I skipped a line because I know most people can't and won't read lengthy paragraphs on this site.

I thought this said "Travin Dural"... man I'm ready for football season.
What was the question?

I handle my own bags, so I don't tip those guys. I am a very generous tipper otherwise.

Company reimburses me as well, but it's the hassle of having to have a stack of $1 at all times. I also tip $1 for each drink I get from the bar at open bar events, is this common practice?

Get petty cash from accounting?

I don't let people handle my bags in this situation. No tip. (He does not get a tip for driving the shuttle - I consider that part of the cost of my parking at the airport)
Can't remember the last time I checked a bag on a business trip. If I have a bag to check I take it inside, see no reason to check it outside and tip.
Yes, 15%.
Nope, I let them know I don't need help with my bags.
If I have to store my bags before / after check in / out then yes need to tip the bell man for taking and retrieving.

for those, I just wait until I'm done, evaluate the overall experience, then throw whatever I think is appropriate in the jar, I usually over tip because I see the cheap skates drinking their asses off all night and then stiff the bartenders
ETA: I might "seed" the jar for them if no else is tipping at all during the course of the event

I tip valet, taxi drivers, and rarely the shuttle driver...but that's only because I can handle my own bag....same goes for hotel helpers.

That's cheap as frick for a tip from the airport.
In all these situations I just keep my bag to myself and tip the cab driver if I don't take public transport.

12.5% is better than 0%...

Tipping in this country is seriously getting ridiculous. Everyone expects a tip for their unskilled labor.

yep, nothing wrong with that, and tipping the guy for being a dick, people tend to overdo it when they get in unfamiliar surroundings

5 dollars is probably on the low end for a ride from Newark to NYC but I know what you mean.

Right. And 80% of them aren't worth an extra 10% much less 20% to my budget.
