Will you admit that there are smarter people on the other side?

Meaning...will you admit that people exist with differing political views than you that are smarter than you?
My guess is that most people on this board won't.
I lean left, and I know some brilliant people that are conservatives. The smartest person I've ever met is a little left of me.
So have you ever met someone who you believe to be as intelligent or more so than you, who has drastically differing political views?
(Yes, I know some smart arse comments will come from the clowns. Serious, introspective threads never do well here.)

well I consider you a moron....so

Absolutely. I don't think either side holds a monopoly on intelligence nor idiocy. Both are rampant on both ends of the political spectrum.

Of course.
ETA: I'm a relatively conservative/libertarian person living in a predominately liberal area, so I would be hard pressed to say that I did not know people with different political views who I consider to be smarter than me.

It's a very poorly framed question. A better question:
What percentage of people on the other side are smarter than you?
My answer would be 'between 1 and 2 percent.'

100%.
They're so much smarter than you and I and I'm being dead serious.
Think of any high level politician you want, seriously any, do you think they actually care about any of this? Do you think they're doing it FOR YOU?
They're doing it for money and power and they've convinced all of us to go along with it. If you don't have money and power then you aren't shite to them. If you don't have money and power it's because you're not smart enough to acheive it...myself included.
Them > Us

I honestly doubt there's a soul on this board who doesn't know that meaning I have to wonder about how badly your ideology has tainted your ability to think clearly.

Absolutely, and some of them even post here.

Of course there are. I work with some of the most brilliant minds in academia. Most of them lean way left. One of the most brilliant minds I know is a dear friend that is left of Marx. He calls me his "conservative comrade"
Many people seem to be in this fantasy world where left vs. right is Occupy vs. Tea Party. Both of those groups are blooming idiots, would you agree?
Something I have been marinating on recently is the complete polarization that has occurred in America. You will find very few conservatives that believe in gay marriage (although many don't care, I'm talking about taking up the issue supporters) and conversely you won't find liberals that are pro-life. Independent thinkers are a rare breed.
I'm a Christian conservative that believes the earth is billions of years old and believes in the complete separation of church and state. I've been branded as liberal academia for those two beliefs, when I am fiscally conservative, anti-abortion, anti-state marriage - you know, a conservative libertarian.

I will admit that a lot of liberals are book smart intelligent and have a lot higher IQ, but that doesn't mean shite when you get a liberal arts degree and have to work at Starbucks instead of having common sense, street smarts and balls to start your own business and manage people.
Like Rodney Dangerfield quoted: "The reason why guys like you have a place to teach is b/c guys like me build the buildings"...or something to that effect.

Sounds legit.
He NEVER gave in on that 188 claim either. Despite literally walking into myriad proofs that he was full of it. He couldn't keep his story straight.
I frankly suspect otto is still on this board but in another persona.

You had to start a thread over this.
What are you really looking for.
Only a fool believes they are smarter than any one else.
Better now?

There are plenty of smart people in the US on both sides of the aisle that fail to connect the dots and see the big picture...

Of course there are "smarter" people from each side of the aisle than post here.

Some of the most drastic conservatives I know are smarter than I am. However, politics is not about intellect as much as it is emotion. Emotional intelligence and IQ have very little correlation. There are many very smart people who make incredibly bad decisions. I greatly admire the intellect of William F. Buckley in particular, George Will, Condoleeza Rice, but I don't agree with them on many social or economic issues.

Smart in what way? I mean con-men are smart and the Democrat party is full of them.
