Recent expansion threads got me thinking. Lets say a Texas, LSU, Bama, USC, Michigan, OSU type program were to build a stadium from the ground up. Would we be looking at a billion dollar complex for a college team?

Obviously, the premier programs already have stadiums that fit their needs (or are easily expandable) so theres really no precedent here to compare to.

~A&M is essentially rebuilding portions of Kyle Field with a price tag of $450 million.

~Cal tore down and rebuilt the entire west said of their stadium for $321 million but a lot of that cost was in Earthquake reinforcement due to being over a fault line.

~In recent years, LSU has built 2 upper decks and an endzone expansion at an adjusted cost of around $218 million.

~Examples of brand new stadiums come from mostly smaller schools. The largest is Minny's TCF Bank with its capacity of 50,xxx

The adjusted cost here was $334 million

~Houston's new 40,000 seat stadium is expected to cost $120 million.

So what would the price tag be for a 90,000-100,000 seat stadium with 100 or so luxury suites, multiple large HD video boards built from the ground up?

On a side note, is there a team out there on a similar level to Alabama, OSU, Michigan, LSU etc. that would be looking to build a new stadium in the future?

Most of these teams have so much history invested that the fan base wouldn't support a major move.

But an awesome 100k stadium built specifically for football with all modern technology could potentially be awesome.

DKR is nice enough, the fans are terrible though.

and ground-up 90,000 capacity stadium?.... $400 to 500 million.

would all depend on the schedule and the number of suites/level of finishes. The more compressed the schedule, the higher the dollar amount.

The elite program most in need of some serious renovations/new stadium is USC. The Coliseum isn't in great condition

If Pete Carroll were still there, it would be a possibility.

They just don't have the dedicated fan base from a football stand point to fund that.

i think you could throw Miami in that mix as well... both USC and Miami could use smaller stadium's closer to campus... would really help out the atmosphere. Similar to what BC has.

I could see them holding out and landing a pretty sweet deal once LA builds an NFL stadium.

600 million. Which is a good bit cheaper than what it would cost to change the name of your school to the University of Louisiana.

USC is currently doing a remodel of the coliseum that could eventually cost up to $300M.

Completely rebuilding the Coliseum would easily cost nearly $1B. The LA NFL stadium is estimated at $1.2B

The Coliseum is about as close as you can get to having an on-campus stadium without it being on-campus. Miami is a much different story and would be better served playing their games at the Marlins' ballpark.

I think ground-up, 90K+, press boxes, suites, modern locker rooms, weight rooms and other facilities... I'd guess closer to $1B than $500M.

Trying to figure this out. Are there any comps for pro stadiums? Obviously Jerry's World was an insane project. 1.3 B. It has frills that are unnecessary but the end product is similar. Huge stadium, retractable roof (most college prob would not have nor want this), 100K people.

I mean it's mind blowing for a college team but I'd have to think a stadium for college football's upper echelon teams would come in closer to what NFL teams are building rather than what Minnesota or Baylor are building. Both MetLife and Levi's stadium are over a billion.
