How many schools are using the new SpeedFlex Riddell helmet this year?

"The Speedflex's unique shell design is engineered to disperse energy and reduce the risk of trauma, while Riddell's InSite Player Management Software alerts the sideline to significant, single or multiple impacts that possess attributes that may result in a possible concussion."
Quite ugly, but supposed to be the biggest step safety wise for helmets in quite awhile.
Are most schools wearing these?

Is that a "crush zone" at the front of the helmet that pushes in to absorb impact?
Pretty cool if so

Yes, it is.
I know they are "testing" them this year, but don't know who else is wearing them.
Expected to become mandatory as early as next season, assuming all goes well this year.

Actually doesnt look that bad. And if it keeps your brain from turning into pudding, who cares what it looks like.

As reported on SI.com, Arkansas, Miami, Florida, Florida State, Texas and San Diego State have already committed to use the helmet beginning in the 2014 season. And that may not be the end of the list.

Would the stripe reduce effectiveness?

It might save your brain but you'll still break your neck if you hit with that part of the helmet.
