Fished it once, I sure hope I have the spot I fished last time saved in the GPS, but something tells me it's not...

If we got anybody else thinking about bringing a boat I'll be glad to pitch in for gas and provide my unsurpassed fishing knowledge. I Don't think I need to be in a kayak the way my back has been acting.

I've never fished Delacroix either. Only places I've fished in my canoe are Big Lake and Cypremort Point. I want to hit Grand Isle and Dulac in it this summer

It's not hard to find a good spot from a yak if you know where they like to hang out. I'll gladly let a few of you follow me around. No boats as we'll be going through some pretty shallow stuff. I've already got area picked out, it's about a 3 mile paddle before you get started, but it should be nice and packed with reds and maybe even some trout.

Van, for those of us arriving on Friday afternoon, is the fishing halfway decent close to the marina, or would we need to know certain spots?

I don't know any spots either. I guess I'll stick with van.

I've paddled literally 300 yrds from the marina and hit the ponds right across the canal and caught fish. You really can't miss it. Last time I was there (about a month ago), those ponds were FULL of grass, but no doubt you can still catch in there.

I'm no expert on Delacroix (never fished it) but in the marsh generally I find it best to look for moving water in shallow cuts. bait follows the current (tide in or out) predators follow the bait. setup so you can pull through them or across them if they're wider cuts.

if the wind is blowing and current is strong try to setup near some grass upwind of the water you're fishing.

since you've only fished freshwater lakes and rivers, you gotta' pay attention to the tide, especially when it's low. you can see places you'll want to fish when the tide comes back in.

i'll have my whole setup but I may just scout around that Friday afternoon/evening. i'm sure i'll still wet a line.

ETA: this is all moot if you see birds, work them!
