Seriously. Enjoyable flick. Looked retarded. Good work Disney.

Watching it on Spike now, they definitely dropped the ball in the marketing department.

The guy responsible lost his job.

The previews before movies at the theator weren't bad. It was the tv ads and other areas where they failed. Critical response didn't help.

seriously?
Yes. The head of the department (Disney Studios) responsible for the movie was fired solely due to the bombing of the movie. He was credited with a lot of the blame for whatever decisions he made.

Pretty sure there's a book about it.

Really? I love reading those types of books. I read Disney Wars twice about the rise and fall of Michael Eisner.

I think it would have made a big difference if instead of simply calling it "John Carter" they had gone with the book name.
John Carter of Mars.
John Carter of Mars.

They removed "of Mars" because Mars in titles is movie poison. I think the success rate of movies with the word "Mars" in the title is literally 0%. There had been a string of recent failures with Mars in the title, most notably Mars Needs Moms, which actually caused the studio that made it into bankruptcy and to shut down permanently.

Sweet! Just ordered on my Kindle. At less than 400 pages, I can finish this tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!

Yup I thought it was a great movie with an intriguing story. Disappointed we probably won't get a 2nd.
I thought it was a little stupid at first cause they showed absolutely nothing about the story in the previews.

I guess I never paid attention to the marketing because there was no question I was going to see the movie in the theaters, which I did.

The books were great reading as a teenager, too bad they screwed up, would have made a good series.

The only thing I remember from the previews is a white dude jumping real high.

Me too, and I thought it looked awesome.

I enjoyed it. It sucks that we won't get the sequel.

The same guy also flopped in that Battleship movie. Oops.
