Not impressed: 'This kind of picture is widespread in the West. The caption often points out that North Koreans have to eat grass. The guides get furious if you take it'
quote:
Ridiculous: 'When you visit families, the guides love it if you take photos to show that kids have computers. But when they see there's no power, they ask you to delete!'
Tons more here

On the HBO show Vice they were allowed to film inside NK when Rodman and the Globetrotters went to play hoops against the NK team.
It was crazy how staged what they allowed them to film.
Very spooky.

That episode was tense as hell, it didn't help that the guy doing the doc was a bit of an arrogant douche.
Also, these jackets are boss as hell.

the banned activities really aren't that bad. I mean they are pics of poor people but you could take a similar photo in the US.

Yea but the point is that NK acts like we don't know these things are going on.
I am also sure he wasn't shown the worst of it.

North Korea has to be one screwed up place to live.
Why would the admins ban that photographer? Post nudes?

They eat grass here, they must enjoy it.

The part where they went to the computer lab and no one was doing anything other than pretending was fricked up.
Then they had the one guy who was obviously rehearsed on what to say. They probably had his whole family in front of a firing squad in case he fricked up and said the wrong thing.
The capital looked like a ghost town during the shoot too. Living in South Korea so close to that nut job leader has to be unnerving to say the least.

The photographer just got these people killed. Way to go Lafforgue!

Haunting is a good word choice...

Just watched the Vice episode. It was bizarre as frick. NK is a complete alternate universe. The scene in the computer lab was the weirdest with the people just staring at a monitor.

I remember seeing a video clip... don't remember from where... of NK people doing manual work. There was one girl/woman who looked lobotomized, like a robot bred just to perform physical labor all her life.
It was profoundly disturbing.

It seems like any time people go there and get pictures, they take them out in the open with guides around. How is the security over there? How come nobody has gone over with some high tech camera glasses or something and just film and keep anything they want?

Go watch the Vice Travel Guide on NK on YouTube.
Much better than the HBO one.
