Landing a fish like this on 4lb test is incredibly challenging and fun.

What makes it even more gratifying is that to get to this population of fish a person has to wet wade over rocks and through swift current over waist deep.

A cricket. I was fishing for redbreast but went to the bass spot and landed 2 smallies.

When I was working him in another bass of similar size raced up beside him near the top.

Hey hey hey. That's what I'm talking about. These trout fishermen scoff at me up here. But they are so much fun. I got a nice 4 lb the other day. No picture as I left my phone in the truck. They jump over and over.

Are you sure that isn't a Shoal Bass and is, in fact, a smallie?

Nice catch!

Great catch. I have caught freshwater trout in New Mexico and Colorado as well as large Specks and Reds in Big Lake. The tackle makes the fight.
A nice freshwater trout on a mountain stream or river on a fly rod or light action is just as rewarding as that big Speck in Big Lake!
Have only caught a couple smallmouths in my life but one hell of a fight!
