The agency said Friday that the loss for the quarter ended March 31 matched the $1.9 billion in red ink in the same period last year. And it came despite a 2.3 percent rise in its operating revenue and continued cost-cutting efforts.

Postal officials have been asking for comprehensive legislation that includes a different delivery schedule, greater control over its personnel and benefit costs and more flexibility in pricing and products.

Though various legislative proposals have been advanced, Congress has been unable to pass a bill with the requested changes.

The way they do business sucks, I recently paid to have a package delivered by 9:oo a.m. Not only was it not there at nine they said the fine print stated they had til three p.m. to deliver it.

What they need is a PostalExchange Website. I hear Sebelius is available to lend a hand.

If you want to know why the govt shouldn't be in charge of healthcare, you really shouldn't have to look any further than the post office.

Hellen Keller could see this and be able to tell the world about it. It's comical that the liberal nutjobs in this country can't see it.

Give me a chance to save the county 100MM!! I can prop up as many useless government workers in redundant jobs, deliver mail late..... and do it for only a 1.8 billion dollar quarterly loss.

Honestly... They need to hire a VP from Fedex or UPS to show them how to run it.

It's obvious the people in charge are inept.

Saturday delivery is but one of a laundry list of problems the USPS faces. Need to let it die, but the government does not let things die.

Go to any decent sized post office on any given afternoon and you'll see why they lose so much money. They'll have 2 of 6 windows open (with a mile long line waiting). Everybody else employed there is bullshitting/drinking coffee. Often in plain sight.

It shouldn't be running record deficits either, Mr. Former CFO.
