DRT:Discussion Time After Reds Lose Again

Tonight was our 11th 1 run loss of the season. What is everyone's thoughts about the season so far? I'm still pissed that we fired Dusty to hire a guy with no managerial experience and I think his lack of experience is showing big time right now. Price's buffoonery tonight in regards to the bullpen was awful. Hoover comes in to face a righty and then pitches to back to back lefties because we didn't get Marshall warmed up in time. And Hoover? How is he a professional pitcher? He has 12 bb in 9 1/3 inning. I know we are having injury issues but losing all of these close games points at Price. It's not his fault on all of them, but a manager can make a one run loss a win. He continues to misuse the double switch and seems to make the same mistakes over and over. It's like he's not learning anything. What do you think the players think of him? Do they respect him? I just have a feeling we fired a guy who was getting us in the playoffs consistently and have taken a GIANT step backwards. What say you?

I understand your point but the our problem is simply lack of hitting. Our lineup is extremely weak. Our pitching keeps us in games and allows us to play close games but no hitting keeps us from getting that go ahead run.

1. Injuries, which led to a shitty bullpen staff early on.
2. Thrown out at home 10 times this year already. I'm fine with being aggressive on the bases, but almost all of these outs were not even close to being runs. Like 15-20 feet away from having a chance to score.
3. No true #3 hitter on the team. Hard to score runs when you can't hit worth a shite with RISP.
4. All of this is overshadowing how fantastic the rotation has been this year (except for Bailey), even with Latos on the DL.
The biggest thing hurting the team is injuries. Hamilton
Bruce
Mesoraco
Latos
Chapman
Broxton
Marshall
Those are all important parts of this team. If they can hover right around (or a few games below .500) when all of these guys come back, then they still have a chance.

This has been a giant disappointment so far but I do not miss Dusty. I think it was time for him to go, which is not to say that Price is off to a good start.
Agree that injuries are the number one thing killing this team. If you look at their 40 man, their minor league guys are even injured. This would have hurt regardless but a lot of the blame has to go to Jocketty here for assembling a paper thin roster.
The Reds have been pretty unlucky so far with all of the one run losses, but I don't see them competing this season. Bruce is not going to be full strength after surgery and BP is on the downslide. I'd like to be more optimistic than that but they just don't seem to have the lineup to do it. Way too much money is tied up in a shitty bullpen.

We need some legit pop from the right side.
I liked the idea of moving Votto to the 2 hole to get him going, but he needs to be moved to the 3. Especially with Bruce out. He was a triple crown threat a few years ago, currently he's on pace for 49 RBI's.
Bruce goes cold for too long for me. It frustrates me.
Mesaraco's injury hurt us. He was a nice bat to have towards the back end of the lineup.
Starting pitching has been good enough to win games. Simon has been a pleasant surprise. The bullpen has been inconsistent. Broxton has been good, really good actually. I hold my breath with all the other relievers. I can't wait for Aroldis to get back. But he has been getting lit up the past couple of days. When Latos gets back, Simon will go help shore up the bullpen. And Hoover? Mother frick him. I'd send his arse down soon as the activate Chapman.
Im holding off on Price because it is early. I was a Dusty Baker fan. But that ship has sailed.

I have had a really hard time watching him manage. There have been a couple of really bad decisions he has made showing his greenness. For example, the game Mesoraco got injured, he double switched for no reason twice and also got really lucky that Mesoraco went down when he did because had it been an inning later, he had burnt his backup catcher pinch hitting. I agree that injuries and lack of hitting have really cost us, but to say his mismanagement hasn't played a big part in the one run losses is just looking the other direction.
