Anyone a member at a course or country club around Houston? I'm up to the point where I'm playing enough to justify a membership instead of paying per round. Interested in peoples opinions on their courses and memberships.

I've looked at Woodforest, it looks like their sign up is $1000 and then $300 a month. It looks like you have to pay half of the cart fee on top of that every time you go play based on their site which I'm not a fan of. If I pay a monthly fee I don't want to have to pay extra every time I play.

I've also looked at Kingwood Country Club. They don't list their prices online so I'm particularly interested in anyones input on this Club if someone is a member. It looks like it's roughly the same per month ($300) and they run specials quite frequently where the start up fee (I'm not sure what the start up fee is here) is waived (The KCC numbers are based on a thread on a random forum I was able to find, but the thread was a year old so not sure how accurate the numbers are). It looks like that $300 a month covers all expenses including full green and cart fee. You also get access to 72 holes at KCC vs. 27 holes at Woodforest.

I plan on looking in to more courses, I've just looked at these 2 so far. Any input on these 2 or others around Houston would be much appreciated.

What part of Houston do you live in? Asking for proximity to course reasons.

Humble/KW/Atascocita area

I'm hoping the numbers at KCC are accurate, it's close and the courses are nice.

That's pretty much the norm for courses not named River Oaks...and heck, they may even have a cart fee.

Is the cart fee thing a new deal? Or have clubs done this forever?

Dunno. Granted I'm not a country club expert. But the ones I'm familiar with (15 or so in a few different locations) have a cart fee.

Yeah it's fairly common, not all clubs do it though. Some clubs all green/cart fees are taken care of by the monthly dues.

No. It's a decent time if you have some bitches with you and you're looking for more of a bar type of a good time rather than actually playing golf. But it's not golf. Not close to the real thing.

its a mixed bag, but a lot of places have memberships that do not include carts

mine doesnt include it

i could purchase a cart plan for about 110 bucks a month, but at 17 bucks a round, i'd have to play 6 times or more to break even every month, and i don't usually meet that average

Duke the initiation fee at kingwood depends on your age. Under 40 gets a pretty big discount. And yes they run specials a few times per year. If you would like I can send the name and email of their membership guy.

I'm a member at Kingwood. IMO it's the best value in Houston. Four courses, water park and fitness spa. Junior memberships are very affordable.

That's in The Woodlands, I live across the street from it

I'm a member at Northgate CC which has reciprocal membership @ Walden on Lake Conroe.

27 holes @ Northgate
18 @ Walden
