I don't post often pretty much just lurk on PT but I'm a huge Pels fan and had to share somewhere. I had to opportunity to meet and talk to Jason Smith at LSU for a while tonight at the Hoop LA event. Great guy to talk to and very down to earth. He seemed to really care about the fans. Asked him about coming back and he said he wants to be back in New Orleans really badly. He said rehab is going well and is looking to be back as a Pelican. Hope we find a way to bring him back. He's a great representative for NOLA and only had good things to say about the organization.

he's white....he laid out Blake Griffin...he's a pretty solid bench big -- great for bringing energy and production off the bench.

...he's no starting C though

He is a great back-up. He is a high energy guy with a bit of range. In a perfect world, he would back up Davis and fill in as the 3rd Center in a pinch. If Anderson could play SF, it would solve a ton of problems. I'm hoping that during his rehab, they slim him down and work on his foot speed.

He can't play more than 50 games, Ryan can't play sf and he backs up davis, he sucks at C because he can't defend.

The obsession peaked with the hit on Blake Griffin. I don't remember the exact details of what penalties where doled out when, but that same week Goodell had been bending Saints fans over hard. Jason Smith hitting Blake Griffin was a shared cathartic experience for locals symbolic of sticking it to the man.

On top of that he's just a normal white guy that happens to be 7 feet tall, I'm sure lots of the people here identify with him and think "If I were 7 feet tall I could pull off being Jason Smith", kind of like how when I watch Aaron Gray's clumsy brand of basketball, I see a 7 foot version of myself.
