Is it possible to tear your Mcl without it swelling?

Maybe it's just a sprain but I was told it usually swells during a sprain too. But I get the sharp pain when I fully extend the knee and when I move it inwards while standing. Only a little soreness.

Yes. Tore MCL and LCL about 12 years ago. Never had any swelling, but had a hell of a lot of pain to the point I couldn't even sleep at night while waiting for insurance to get off its arse to approve the surgery. The post-operative pain was a walk in the park compared to what was there before.
In talking with a few others, we all had the same experience about managing the pain until surgery. The pain killers quickly got to where they did not work any longer. Each of us wound up going to the grocery store and buying seven fifths of Boone's Farm. Chill one down each day, and kill it along with your meds before bedtime. Should get you four or five hours of sleep. Just remember that you have to get off of all that shite after the surgery.
Good luck.

Yes.
I partially tore both mine from hiking and skiing. No swelling. Just extreme pain the next day (even with knee braces) if I would go hard on the slopes or trails. Also when hiking if I would go down extremely steep slopes I could feel my right knee trying to buckle backwards (also very painful).
It basically took 2 years for mine to get back to normal (no surgery). I had to tone back the activities that strained my knees for a bit but I'm back at 100% now. Skied all winter with no issues and did a great hike in the mountains yesterday and woke up with zero knee pain today.
I still wear a brace on my right knee as a precaution.

all us doctors still need to examine you in person to give an accurate diagnosis

Which one is best? ACL gets all the glory.

Same here. I've spent a few nights iced up awake all night in pretty intense pain. Climbing or descending stairs the next day is usually a challenge too.

You tear an ACL it's man down. Get a stretcher and the doctor.

I've torn my ACL and MCL. It sucked. I'd never heard of LCL til just now. Just wondering which was most important. There was a few weeks between my injury and the surgery and my knee actually felt ok.

Go see a doc and let them check it out. Usually an MRI with contrast will tell the tale.

Probably the PCL, it's the strongest, which is why you've never heard of it, because it rarely gets torn

As in which is the worst, don't have a clue in hell since I have not torn an ACL before. However, the MCL and LCL were pretty goddamned painful. Surgery was the only way out and from my perspective it couldn't happen soon enough.
