SIAP, but...

quote:

Oregon's basketball program announced that Dominic Artis, Damyean Dotson and Brandon Austin were "not currently participating in any team activities" on Monday afternoon, and a late night report by The Oregonian shed some light on the details surrounding the leave of absence by the three players. Dotson is the subject of a forcible rape investigation from March that also names Artis and Austin in the police report. Dotson will not be prosecuted due to a lack of evidence, and was the lone subject of the investigation. All three players were reportedly kicked off the team on Monday night. Read the entire police report here.

The police report depicts a gruesome scene where all three men allegedly forced vaginal and oral sex upon the victim multiple times. The report starts at a party where the victim states she was intoxicated. She was allegedly led into a bathroom by Dotson and Austin, where the two Oregon basketball players allegedly took off the victim's clothes and started sexually assaulting her. The victim said she did not want to do anything with them, but Austin and Dotson were persistent. Each allegedly forced oral sex on the victim, and Austin allegedly began having vaginal intercourse with her at a certain point. Austin was allegedly in front of the bathroom door to prevent anyone from coming into a bathroom that did not lock.

I'll never forget what happened at Colorado, though. Do you guys remember that?

I thought that they weren't booted from the program yet, just not participating with the team? Or I think Artis is transferring, and the other two haven't decided yet. I'm not too sure.

What's the deal with athletes and gang rape?

though i see the girl admits to staying with one of the guys post rape, then blows him the next morning, but can't remember if they had sex.

sounds like she got wasted and regrets getting herself three wayed imo

So why punish him for a crime we can't prove he committed?

Why punish ALL three when only this one was investigated? Modern Salem witch hunt and nothing more.

This is the second sexual assault incident involving Austin, who was also under investigation by police in Providence, R.I. Austin transferred to Oregon after originally signing with Providence and getting suspended for the season.

I see your point. However you have to understand that this is not a court of law. These atheletes have an obligation to the university to avoid situations like this. They are public figures.

There likely enough evidence to prove that something unsavory was happening. These kids should be kicked out for it.

If we are going to throw around crimes like rape shouldn't we have an obligation to actually prove such a thing occurred?

I read the report and I came to the conclusion a college student got wasted and regretted it. Just my opinion on the read through.

So you are saying there wasn't questionable judgement on the Oregon B-Ball players part? They were just playing xbox in their dorm rooms?

Are you saying that we should punish them for the same level of irresponsibility as the accuser showed in getting wasted before going to a party?

She is also not facing life altering accusations of rape, even if it is never proved. These men probably wont get their day in court either.

They'll be guilty in the court of public opinion for a LONG time either way.

Yes, I am. They are public figures and need to act as such.

I'm not saying they need to be saints, but they need to recognize it and act accordingly.

No public figure should ever find themselves in a position where they are in a bathroom with a member of the opposite sex (with another gaurding the door) and not expect it to have negative consequences if it gets found out.

At some point, these guys should have had the thought going through their head "hey maybe we shouldn't be headed to the bathroom with a woman, this could be a really bad idea".

Stop acting like this is a normal situation that happens to normal college kids. This is far beyond just kids getting drunk and having fun territory.
