What is you guys' opinion? Will Tigerland continue to become the next Gardere? Or will a developer come in and level it and start over? Seems like that land is too valuable to let it go to crap.

no doubt about it.
developers cant come in and buy out all that section 8
and even if they do, wont change the perception or the problem, it will only be a bandaid to the bigger issue that is BR

As Nicholson develops, tigerland keeps going down. I hate it as a Riverbend Sub resident. Already talking about moving.

My bet is that the bars relocate to Nicholson corridor

It's basically a game of cat and mouse that takes decades to cycle through.
I never did think I would see the day that the area on Nicholson would get an overhaul like it is. Twenty years ago, there were projects on Oklahoma St that all but wiped that area out.

Has Sharlo gone to shite? In my day that was the place to live.
Posted on 5/3/14 at 7:49 am to Cosmo
Lived in sharlo for three years and loved it then.

Sharlo was my home for my entire time at LSU...it wasn't pretty then, but it looks raggedy as hell now...
Unfortunately, tiger land still has mostly useable buildings. It is not until buildings lie vacant that developers come in and start tearing things down...
I am afraid the area has a bit more declining to do before it starts to turn around...

It's to late, it's already like Gardere . The Animals there have to live somewhere. And by no means am I calling everyone who lives there animals.

with the new nicholoson area being transformed, everywhere else is gonna go to shite faster,
and because of the area around the new nicholson area, it wont take long for that to go to shite

Should happen anyway. Although there is plenty of ghetto over there to. I've always thought Tigerland was a joke anyway. It's the worst bar scene in the SEC.

but im sure the BR sunshine pumpers will be in here when they wake up to tell us that the areas we are talking about arent really that bad

It's not all "animals" that live back there.
I do some maintenance on one of the larger complexes back there, and it is mostly Chinese students that rent the units. Half of them don't have a couch in the small living room and only a mattress on the floor of the bedroom. Rots of books. Rots of rice. Rots of study. None of them drive a Rexus with low profile wheels and rims.

I agree with the chinese students, I remember driving thru there in college and some chinese lady doing her laundry in a drainage ditch between brightside and alvin dark. She was wearing one of those hats that looked like an upside down wok.

Tiger Town was awesome growing up int he 70's and early 80's - Tommy''s Barbershop, Fifth Generation, Backpacker, the place at the varsity where you had a telephone at your booth to ring up your order. The movie theater. Sad when (Thuggin it and Lovin it) messes up everything nice.

That sounds absolutely horrible. I'd have never lived in Tigerland as a student anyway. The apartments are crap and look infested. I was at LSU 03-07.
Poors are the only ones I knew that lived anywhere near Tigerland. Didn't know many poors.
