Finally the MUD players find a visual world.

The midi music was so great. intro waiting screne

EQ Atlas My binder with printed maps.

I cried a little inside when eqrangers went dark.

Fansy the famous bard

Rallos killing the sleeper, we were all sitting around getting updates in channels for this fight.

Hill Giant farming for plat.

Running Kithcor at night.

Spire camping in south Karana.

Killing the commander in Blackburrow solo at lvl 17.

The epic /ooc fights over the ships in Dulak's Harbor.

I was on the Rathe a rot and not ffa server and a couple of people ganked Sev and all hell broke loose on the message board.

Tower of Frozen Shadow, on of the best designed zones in any MMO ever.

72 man raids, Vox and Nagy. Why they are still needed for epics is stupid with the level cap.

Tecknoe soloing Nagafen Then they nerfed the pots.

TRAIN TO ZONE!!!!

/ooc "Camp Check"

Finding a group pulling outside of Karanor's Castle on my ranger and proceeding to shoot, snare, and root mobs for 6-8 hours whilst getting drunk and talking to my new found friends in the group. We always had one being killed and two rooted for next up on the kill list.

WTF comics

Camping Hadden for the Fishbone Earring.

Unintended suicide by Kelethin.

EC tunnel, the original bazaar.

Eventually the PoK main bank buff barn.

Comms with 72 people before Vent

I know there are a ton more that I am forgetting.

Tricking newbies into attacking the Priest of Discord.

Selling Crushbone Belts

Selling shite in the tunnel in east common lands (or was it west?) at the torches.

Having to drop gear in random unknown places and jumping on an alt to grab it before anybody found it.

Being encumbered.

Staring at your spell book all fricking day when meditating.

Having to craft spells, praying for drops.

Shattered Emerald of Corruption for the second ranger epic that NEVER dropped.

Bards being able to kite 100 things at once, especially when Plane of Nightmare came.

Sol B, loved that zone.

Best game of all time. EQ2 is very underrated after about 5 years after it launched too. I played it for a year and a half and it legit

And Rampaging Hill Giants and such made the world "dangerous," without being an unnecessary death trap.

The feeling of danger really elevated the game.

I spent my EQ formulative years dreading the yell "SPECTRE TRAIN TO DOCKS" in the deserts of Ro.

My only experience with everquest was when I was in compusa buying a video card and this 40 year old creep asked me if I was buying it for everquest. I started laughing and walked away

I was able to be apart of the first worldwide Quarm kill, Arch Overseers on Bristlebane. Still my life's greatest accomplishment.

Also training Dragoons to zone on purpose in Overthere. The original troll job.

Raising the halfling town as Dark Elves just because we hated them.

Finally, hanging up my main to become a GM. That game was my life.

Gating was epic as well. The accomplishment of just completing your Vex Thal key, much less raiding there. Killing Rallos Zek as well was a huge bottleneck. Council fight in Plane of Earth too.

Planes of Power was by far the best expansion of any game I have ever player. It was a game in and of itself.

Bard was my first character, used to do that everywhere. Twisting is probably one of the coolest skills I've ever learned in a video game.

Until it was nerfed.

Oh man... Much of my life wasted to this game...

Tankred 85 Berserker 4500+ AA RZ server
Vamlarus 85 shaman 3300+ AA RZ server

FYI. I played on a PvP server and was officer in the main guild that killed sleeper.

Ganking peoples gear in blackburrow with my twinked out rogue deleveled from 60 with the same skill levels and gear. Unstoppable!

Corpse camping people I hate for hours not allowing them access to their hero.

Training rival guild raids and exp groups because they do it to us!

Being blacklisted on server and creating a guild of blacklisted pvpers that used PvP to destroy a top raid guild.

Owning everyone on the Zek server with my OP beserker and able to One Round max geared and AAed entire enemy groups.

Zoning into exp zones where groups /ooc Tankred is in zone! Everyone log off!

Being accused of hacking by everyone I owned and having GM's watch me and give me props.

Much, much more. Not even going into raiding....

I wouldn't call i wasted if you loved what you were doing at the time. Too many people call gaming a waste when they spend the same or more in front of the TV. How long does it take a rock climber to make it to the top? Different stroke for different folks. It's a hobby and if it doesn't stifle your regular life then you are not obsessed. I am a big introvert but some of the crazy non gaming stories I could tell would set the OT on fire.

It makes me very sad when I read this thread. I miss the magic of EQ back in 1999-2001. The Vex Thal key quest caused major burnout among our guild who had been playing together since the start.

I played on Brell so here are some specific memories from our server.

FU Sanornik

Da Skurge

Verant Has Defeated you social life in a duel to the death. It was an actual duel message displayed several times on our server before they removed the global duel messages.

My guild Watchers, would portal bomb Woushi in Wakening lands. It was a great way to kill that weak dragon.

Our guild along with Silent Redemption had almost every server first.

We had most of the Best of the Best Tournament winners

Brell was a very friendly server with a Rotation that worked out really well.

I remember camping for my Hammerhead helmet with my best friends and that shark spawing at 6am and us killing him after being up all night camping him.

I could go on but this is making me miss it even more.

Sitting in zones foraging for 12 hours for an epic piece

Royals camp in solb

Frenzy camp in lguk

Camping that dude in highpass for the Testament of Vaneer quest

Finally killing Faydedar to finish Druid epic

The many trains of Karnors

Quad kiting tables for ridiculous exp in PoFire

Killing Fennin Ro on our first try

Killing AHR at 5am with 18 people after being in Vex Thal for nearly 12 hours

The epicness of raiding NToV

PoP bosses: namely RZtW, Coirnav, and some PoT bosses

Soloing a hill giant for the first time

Killing Grimfeather in NK for the first time after he'd killed me at least 15 times leveling in that damn zone

Falling down the well in Befallen as a noob and having to beg for help to get my poor little body

Falling off the ship from Qeynos to Kerrans Island and getting mangled by a shark scared the piss out of me the first time.

So many feels..
