Admitting Nurse Falls Asleep on the Job (Video Link)

This was posted on FaceBook from somewhere in Florida.
I guess this nurse was getting the patient's information and dozed off. The patients sat there for about 20 minutes taking video coverage and snap chatting and then went and got a different nurse who woke her up and took over.

Back in the day when I pulled all nighters in college I would be sleepy at the bank the next day but never full on passed out on a client.

But yeah....you get fired for that at most hospitals. Where I work at you can be fired on the spot for being caught sleeping.

You can't really tell if the nurse is a male or female just from watching the video so...

I haven't seen it.
But you don't know how much that nurse worked. Maybe she is on her 6th 12 hour shift?
Maybe she didn't sleep well during the day before work.
I get sleepy ALL the time at work. I get up and walk around, but sometimes it is VERY difficult to stay awake. It's why I wish they would let us use our breaks to nap if we wish(even though they are not paid breaks we can also get fired if we take a nap on our lunch break).
Study after study has shown the risks of medical errors, etc by night shift nurses due to sleepiness. Or the risk of falling asleep driving home(like that nurse that died driving home). A quick 15 minute nap would make a huge difference those type of nights.
When I worked in BR when we got tired we would take a quick nap and made a big difference.

Now I feel bad for her, nurse!
I honestly don't know what I would do in that situation. Probably just sit there until she decided to wake up. Cough and rustle around hoping that woke her up.

My sister worked at West Jefferson right after Katrina. The traveling nurses would sleep on the job all the time. Patients would call the nurses desk complaining. The hospital was in such a bind for employees, they just ignored it.

Falling asleep like that is probably how she got those crazy lines in her hair from one of her friends.

Technically.....the patient was in the wrong for videoing that.
We are not allowed to video our patients, BUT we have to notify someone if we catch a patient or family member video taping us. It isn't allowed.
