UPDATE: Troopers closing the interstate because of vehicle fire on basin

quote:

I-10 east and westbound over the basin bridge is shut down due to two 18-wheelers on fire. The fire is around mile marker 126. Troopers say traffic is being diverted at the Henderson exit. Those who are headed to Baton Rouge are advised to take I-49 to Highway 190.

I got stuck on there for 5 hours one time because a cucumber truck wrecked. That was miserable, but the smell was pleasant.

How does this even happen?

Maybe I'm just an a-hole, but the first thing I thought when I saw this was "Serisouly? Learn to drive".

you have me beat by one hour. Listened to every pitch of the LSU vs. Rice game at the CWS in 2008 on that bridge. Scrap metal truck overturned on top of a car in the other lane.

Looks like it was fatal.

quote:

DOTD has announced all lanes are closed again on I-10 at Whiskey Bay. They announced one west bound lane was open, but have since closed them all again. Troopers tell us that the accident involves four 18-wheelers. Eastbound traffic is being diverted at Breaux Bridge. The backup from this incident has reached approximately five miles in both directions. Troopers tell us they are investigating this incident as a fatality; no word on the extent of injuries or how many people are affected.
