*Draft:
ESPN's Keith Law has the Astros taking Brady Aiken, LHP, San Diego, Ca.
quote:

Analysis: He's a 6-foot-4 left-hander who's hitting 95 mph regularly with his fastball, and he complements that with a plus curveball and future-plus changeup along with a good delivery and some projection remaining. He's not Clayton Kershaw, but it's a pretty good version of the Kershaw Starter Kit.

Law says the 'Stros short list right now is: Aiken, Kolek, Rodon and Alex Jackson.

*MiLB
Carlos Correa: Still nursing a sore shoulder that he suffered reaching for a bag behind a seat on a bus. Currently has 2 home runs with 4 SBs and an .828 OPS at High-A Lancaster.

Jon Singleton, AAA Oklahoma City: In the last three games, one for his last 11 plate appearances. Still sporting a very good OPS -- 1.007 -- with nine home runs.

Michael Foltynewicz, AAA Oklahoma City: 4.88 ERA with a 1.625 WHIP, with 19 Ks in 24 innings. The hits and ERA aren't necessarily an issue, especially in that league, but the 13 walks is. Decent K%, would like to see it a little higher.

*Series vs. M's
Friday: Peacock vs. King Felix
Saturday: Keuchel vs. Hisashi Iwakuma (first start this season)
Sunday: Jabroni? vs. Brandon Maurer

I know very little about Aiken. Jackson is a power bat who probably projects to corner OF or 3B, which could fit very well with the other young pieces we have. Kolek we all probably know and that's who I probably prefer at this point from my limited knowledge. The amount of stress NC State has put on Rodon's arm makes me scared shitless of him

In a radio interview on 4/21, Luhnow said don't expect him to be called up anytime soon.

I don't watch enough college baseball/read about high school kids but it sure is a shame what that NC St coach is doing to Rodon. The amount of pitches he's thrown in some games is absurd and I'd have to think worries some teams.

I saw the Chron had a story about Nolan and Porter driving over to see Kolek pitch last night. That dude looks like a beast.

Nolan, Bo and Dave Trembley drove to see Tyler Kolek's start last night FWIW.

ETA: My bad, didn't see CQQ's post.

If they're gonna go the HS pitcher route, I believe Kolek has a shitload more upside than Aiken IMO.

I like Alex Jackson too. Best bat in the draft.

Rodon wouldn't be a terrible pick.

I still think its gonna be Rodon. He's much closer to the majors and easier to project than a couple of 18 year olds who haven't pitched to anything above high schoolers.

Aiken is picking up lots of steam for a number of reasons. Mainly because they can under slot him and spend more later in a deep draft.

I go back and forth on this reasoning. In the end, I think they have a very good FO and won't be mad with the selection.

I think it worked out great in 2012 with Correa, Ruiz, and McCullers.

That's one way to go. You just have to determine if it's better to have 1-2 great prospects or 10 meh prospects.

They did that the first year with Appel and took Correa instead. Seemed to work out in that situation considering most here are meh on Appel now and Correa looks like the real deal. That draft got the Astros a few of their current top prospects, so it can work out for the better.

OH, I'm not disagreeing with you at all. Kolek is far from a sure thing. He may be one of those guys who never develops control.

Alex Jackson or Rodon is probably the closest thing to a "safe" pick in this draft.

I think that would reach the point were fans would say enough. When do you start trying compete than just build?

It falls in the same category as to why haven't they signed a big free agent yet.

Everyone knows about Rodon, and fans want to see the team be great sooner rather than later. We need superstars on this team now.

I would much rather have a proven Lefty that can break more ankles with his slider than Hot Sauce in streetball.

Why should we draft Kolek? We already have a big 100-mph pitcher with control issues in Folty.

Well, Keith Law does have Aiken as his No.1 overall prospect in this draft. As do many other scouts.

This reason is pretty apparent. Additionally, and I've posted this before, I've spoken to Steve Sparks in person and he guarantees that the ownership is willing to spend, but at the right time.

They want all the prospects to come up around at the same time, then fill the holes from there on FA's

What good does it for them to sign Nelson Cruz to a four-year contract this past offseason?

Doesn't that fit Rodon though, he would get to the Major's way faster than Aiken or Kolek
