I recently watched the video of Leonard Fournette talking about choosing to go to LSU and how he wants to win the heisman and national championship in his freshman year. I think he will be the best back in LSU history during his tenure here. I personally don't think that any running back from LSU will be able to win the heisman. My view on this is because no matter how good of a running back we have we always split carries to keep our running backs fresh and wear down the defense. We never have an every down back which to me makes it impossible for our running backs to win the heisman. Am I the only one that thinks that way? BMW I know that's everyone dream coming out of high school and I'm not trying to bash him or anything for saying that. Just wanted your thoughts.

He will probably be good. But he's not even on campus yet. Pump the brakes.

Anything is possible but highly unlikely.

I'm not just talking about Fournette. I'm asking about any running back and just referred to his video. Sorry for the misconception.

I think we will stick with any hot back. J Hill was getting as many carries as he could handle and screwed it up by missing 3 games. He still had something like 1200 uds. If not for that, he easily could have had 500 more uds and finished with monster #s.
I trust that if LF would happen to pop off 100 plus week 1, he would slowly become the feature back.

I predict we have multiple games with 2 backs over 100 yds

I really hope this place doesn't swallow this dude whole. Let him get on campus first.

Don't doubt what Fournette says. He has an indomitable passion and spirit. The dude does what he says he's going to do and if he wants to win to be a heisman candidate and win national championships, I don't doubt him.

I'm all in for Buga Nation.

Billy Cannon did, of course he actually played college football...and played it well. This kid has never carried a football in Tiger Stadium. Lets remember all the "heisman candidates" we have signed over the years......that never panned out.

The Heisman just isn't all that important anymore. Sure, it's a nice trophy with lots of history but it doesn't pay the bills or even get you drafted, just ask Jason White.

Back in the 50's it did matter, it was a way for an unknown from Nebraska to catch the eye of an NFL team that was only looking in major markets. Now every college team has a pro day and plenty of TV coverage.

Sure it is. That helps the school in recruiting future running backs and LSU is known for their running game. Would help to have heisman trophy winning backs.

Think about it like this, Hill had 203 carries, played in 12 games, but only played 3 quarters total in his first two games. So he roughly played 11 games. That's 127.27 yards a game, 18.45 carries a game, and 1.45 TDs a game.

Had he played all 13 games, you are looking at roughly 1650 yards and 18-19 TDs on 240 carries, with about 200 receiving yards. Those are incredible stats to be sure, but unless they are coming from a QB, he probably won't be a heisman finalist. He'd have to be in the 1700-1800 yard range like Mason with 20+ rushing TDs and possibly 3-4 hundred receiving yards just to be a finalist.

I could see Fournette getting 18-20 carries a game easily in 2015 and 2016 along with a shite ton of receptions. He'll definitely get the carries, he just needs to produce.

I think it is tougher in today's game for any RB to win the Heisman because of all the pass happy offenses out there. Throw in the emergence of the dual-threat QBs and RBs have a hard time competing numbers wise.

College QBs across the country are putting up big passing numbers in the spread. QBs like Newton, Manziel, and Winston are adding pretty sick rushing stats to go along with those passing yards.

No coincidence that we have seen a recent string of Heisman winning QBs. Not saying a RB has no chance to win, but in today's college game, IMO it's a lot more difficult.

I wish him luck but I have heard this shite before. I think he will be a great back but I think it is a little pre mature.

just a few points on this:

>LF didnt just think this up yesterday.
>CLM has been recruiting LF for four yrs and he knows LF's desires.
>CLM did not even recruit a RB last season anticipating LF arrival.
>CLM has generally been an honest man with his players/recurits. I dont think he told him "yes" when he was thinking "no"

Personally, in most cases I would tend to think the way you said it but in this case I think that if LF puts up the numbers early I believe CLM,CCC, and LSU will be all in behind him. That would create a recruiting dynamo that would last for yrs.

Jeremy Hill 203-1401/16
Terrence Magee 86-626/8
Alfred Blue 71-343/1
Kenny Hilliard 68-310/7

Hill had almost 50% of the rushes, 52% of the rushing yards, and 50% of the rushing touchdowns from the most used running backs. He missed the first game and a half. He ranked 2nd in rushing, 1st in ypc, had 114 less rushes than Mason and IMO was the best back in the country but wasn't in the Heisman talk. I thinks barring his troubles he would have been near the top in the nation and in the middle of the Heisman talk. So yes I think, Fournette could win the Heisman at LSU, but not his freshman year.
