I've had an intestinal ulcer. Feels like pain right in the middle of your body and even hurts on your back. You quickly learn how nerves are connected in your body. For some reason they like to flair up in the middle of the night and wake you with pain in your gut. Eating would relieve my pain, but then it'd come back strong in a few hours.

BTW, don't WebMD that shite. Guaranteed pancreatic cancer result.

I got ulcers for the first time in high school. It feels like a gnawing, burning sensation right below your sternum but definitely in your stomach. The pain got worse if I had an empty stomach and better once I ate something.

If you are having stomach ulcer pain you should go get some omeprazole (Prilosec OTC). That's the best stuff for it, although you could get some rimantidine (the generic acid reducer you see at Walgreen's) but that's not as powerful. Take that for 6 weeks and if you still feel the pain I would go to a doctor.

Also, for the love of god, stop taking/avoid NSAIDs. That's how I originally got ulcers.

If the pain starts radiating into your shoulder/neck, go immediately to a doctor because that's a sign that it might be perforated. This happened to me. I had to have surgery. It sucked.

I woke up with pain the day that it perforated. I'd watch out for that if I were you. Waking up from pain is a pretty ominous sign.

I had 6 when I was 21 yrs old. Had heartburn all the time 24/7. One night while I was at work I started throwing up chunks of blood, GF picked me up and carried me to the ER. Was in ICU for 3 days.

Stay away from BC Powders!!! I lived on them in college and am sure that is what caused the bleeding ulcers.

Thanks. This was several years ago. That's what made me go to the doctor. All's good now. I found out the ibuprofen I was taking for the pain only made it worse. I quit drinking and smoking and took some Prilosec and it cleared up pretty quick.

If you think you have an ulcer, go get it checked out.

There are some very significant complications which can arise from an untreated ulcer.

yep...people die from that shite...

if I remember correctly, over the last few years they figured out that lots of ulcers are caused by some bacteria....just gotta take some antibiotics and you are cured....

all of this. They CAN be caused by types of bacteria but odds are, it's just stress and/or NSAIDS that are doing it. omeprazole will clear it up.

Like I said, stop NSAIDs, be careful about drinking/smoking, and take omeprazole for six weeks. If it doesn't clear up then you probably have H. pylori, which means you're going to need to be put on antibiotics, which obviously requires a doctor's appointment.

ETA: and yes you can die. My ulcer perforated so I basically had a hole in my stomach shooting acid into my abdomen. I didn't even realize it was that bad... Don't let it get that bad. I was stuck in the hospital for a week on IV antibiotics after the surgery with a terrible fever.
