So with 3 weekend series left it seems that about five teams have emerged with a chance to host regionals and also a chance to get a top 8 seed. Normally the SEC gets one or two National Seeds and around 4 regional hosts maybe 5. I think there is a chance that one of the top 6 teams right now get's left out of a regional host.

Here are the current ranks including RPI.

#1 Florida 15-6 #3 RPI
#2 Alabama 13-8 #20 RPI (#2 by virtue of sweeping Ole Miss)
#3 Ole Miss 13-8 #4 RPI
#4 LSU 12-8 #14 RPI
#5 USC 12-9 #6 RPI
#6 Vanderbilt #8 RPI

Remaining Schedules
Florida
@ Alabama
Vanderbilt
@Tennesse
Alabama
Florida
@LSU
Mississippi State
Ole Miss
Arkansas
Georgia
@Texas A&M
LSU
@Texas A&M
Alabama
@Auburn
USC
@ Georgia
Missouri
@ Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt
@ Missouri
@ Florida
South Carolina

so what are you thoughts on who has the best chance to get top 8 seeds and host regionals

I would say of chances of hosting/top 8 seed is as follows.

1) Florida
2) Ole Miss
3) South Carolina
4) LSU
5) Vanderbilt
6) Bama

I would say Bama will be the one left out their schedule is to tough, but if Bama wins every series going out they will jump into prime position for a regional host, if they find a way to win the west they may sneak their way into a top 8 seed.

LSU may be the unlucky one out if we still finish with a good record but finish #5 in the SEC in RPI and Rank.

LSU needs to finish strong.

Edited to include Vanderbilt

i think it will be tough for LSU to get a national seed without winning the west or sec tourney.

You have to remember the SEC HQ will go out of their way to help their little darlings. They've done it will scheduling, officiating, through the media, etc. so don't be surprised if backdoor deals aren't already being discussed.

The other schools will have to earn it on their own. Let's just sweep the inbred scum and not look back. Of course we'll still have to go play in Hoover for the 10,000th straight year. I guess the SEC HQ has determined that's the ONLY suitable ballpark in an 11-state conference.

I think we get 4 hosts and 2 national seeds. Bama and Vandy have the toughest roads remaining, but if either finishes strong they will jump up in the pecking order.

And we have a great chance to do both so I don't see why people don't think we have a great chance to be a top 8 seed. We have a favorable schedule and control our own destiny. If we can knock off Bama we win the west, get a bye in the tourney and have a legit chance to win the tourney again this yr. Florida is good but very beatable imo!

It's a long way from #14 to #8. But we'll see what happens. It's a crazy game and you never know what can happen.

LSU needs help now from OM. Ole Miss has a very good shot at being ahead of us even if we win all three of our final series.

We would need help even without the tie. Their RPI is 10 spots higher. That's a big difference.

Still a long way to go, but we don't need to worry about all that right now, just winning games. We're still very much in the race for the overall title. And if we win the west, I think we still get a national seed over any other west team, granted we beat Alabama. That would mean we would have beaten every west team HTH. Regardless, unless we totally collapse, we'll be a host team easily.

LSU's series victory in Oxford proves that the team can go on the road and beat an excellent opponent in an unfriendly environment. 1-6 in the Rebels lineup is as good as anyone in the country. I don't see LSU getting a National Seed, nor do I think that's the end of the world. This team is starting to show a little grit. Regardless of what some of the mouth breathers say, Tennessee was a pretty good club.

It would be in LSU's best interest to have the Alcorn State game rained out - playing the game will be RPI detrimental at this point.

Tennessee has given every team they've played a tough series. they're just young and don't know how to close out games. They should have beaten Alabama. They did beat Vandy. They blew leads on consecutive games against USC late. Their conference record is not a good indication of how capable they are as a baseball team.

LSU is very young this year, too, fwiw.

Saturday we started 3 freshmen (Poche', Robertson, Fraley) and 4 sophomores (Laird, Stevenson, Bregman, Chinea). We only have 4 seniors on the team.

Our head coach's constant tinkering will be the downfall of this team. Just let Dunn make all the pitching decisions.

Keep McCune on the bench

true, but Tennessee was built from the ground up. We still have veteran players that are much more talented than the veteran players on the Tennessee team. I'm just trying to point out that Tennessee is a better team than their conference record indicates.

McCune was absolutely fricking nails in Oxford. We will need him going forward. He's gotta get innings somewhere.
