Marvel Movies and the "Fake Out" Deaths (Spoilers)

Am I the only one jaded by this? It has happened in the Avengers with Coulson, Thor 2 with Loki, Captain America 2 with Fury, and Iron Man 3 with Pepper. The first time it happened, I fell for it and it really added emotional weight to the scene. After being burned one too many times, I don't feel the way the producers obviously intended me to feel as I know the character isn't really going to die. One of the reasons shows like Lost and Oz were such good shows was because they weren't afraid to kill off their most popular characters and replace them with just as good talent. It also made those scenes more impactful. I wish these movies would do the same.

Coulson is still dead in the Marvel movie universe right? I mean I know he's on the show but does that really count?

Pretty sure the TV show is part of the Marvel cinematic universe.
And its pretty common in comic books for stuff like this to happen, so it shouldn't be surprising that it happens often in movies based on comic books.

I agree to extent
I wish they would have left Coulson dead and Fury but it is what it is. You should never expect a hero or villain in the MCU to stay dead for very long it's just the way it is

Yeah, I didn't buy Fury's death for a second.
different universe but what about Prof X in the new movie? Wasn't he atomized in 3? Guess if they go back in time to make thongs right, Cyclops won't be dead.

I can understand, but seeing as the films are very much based off of comic books, they'll remain playing by CB rules, and that means no one is ever truly dead. Except for maybe poor Laufi.
I mean, there's a weakness to that in that death is wasted a bit, and I might wish them to take some chances on this, but that's hard to do.
I THINK we'll see something different after they've established MCU rules in full, simply because film is going to necessitate a change in approach. I mean, they can draw Tony Stark in the comic books forever, he obviously doesn't die. But the MCU needs an Iron Man and RDJ literally can't play him for 20 years.
I hope they are building towards either a large wipe of characters; maybe in A4 or A5 they do a time altering story and just wipe everyone, start from scratch. OR they'll let characters take over for extended periods of time a la "Iron Man 4: War Machine." That one might be a tough sell, but if you get the right people, it's possible.

Coulson is not coming back in the movies, even though he really is alive. Whatever brought him back has changed him somehow. I wish they would bring him back in the movies, though. He is now in the Marvel comics, btw.

Yeah. For the longest time the saying was the only three characters who stay dead are Bucky, Jason Todd and Uncle Ben. And the first two of them have now been brought back.

I do too, but the Avengers without Iron Man is a tough sell for longer than a few movies.
And a combination of those is what I think happens, we'll see most of the tier 1's depart...RDJ. Evans wants to direct film, Scarlet-they have a reason not to bring her back now, Ruffalo can probably make 1 or 2 more movies (he's old) and he's the most easily replaced, etc. So Maybe A3 is minus Stark+War Machine. A4 minus Hulk, BW, Hawkeye and has War Machine and Winter Soldier taking the place of their respectives and includes Ant-Man and/or Strange and/or the twins, etc.
Then they wipe it all and find new leads.
Hemsworth and Renner are the only ones I can see, from the main cast, sticking around for a few more movies.

Then used another mutant to transform his body to that of a 70 year old crippled man.
duh.
But the end of the last Wolverine, he was shocked to see the both of them.
Though I heard that this X-Men movie is a parallel universe.

Might have to finally watch the wolverine movie. The first was so bad, I just haven't had the energy to endure another failure.

I don't think coulsons death was initially intended to be a fakeout. And as far as I know , sif, fury, and hill are the only ones that know he's still alive.
Based on the characters introduced and kept around in ca2, it looks like they're setting up his death.
